delete recordings from app

I watch directv from two locations, one account. With a dish/genie at one and via directv app on Roku in the other. I can set programs to record at either location. I can warch from both. All recordings are on the genie. My question is how can I delete recordings from the app on Roku or app on android?

Satellite service only permits you to delete from the box itself.

Well that's not cool. Definitely technology from the stone age. DirecTv's apps (past and present) never were what they once promised to be.  Oh well. I might not get back to the box before its full. I like to record sporting events which frequently do not end on time. I'm going to have to find a happy median between ending late and remaining available space. Maybe start late and end late. It's the end that matters.

Well not the "stone age" but I get what you mean. DirecTV has been primarily satellite service, with evolving to have internet as a secondary perk. It is only recently (as tech goes), they got the other streaming-only provider option.

When AT&T first acquired DirecTV, it was hoped they could bridge the gap as they are an ISP. Unfortunately it went more towards how many of us feared. Now with AT&T having sold off DirecTV, it is unknown where the brand will go from here.

As for remaining space, most HDDVRs (not Clients) support using an eSATA external hard drive.

Regular HDDVRs such as HR24 have internal 500GB (HR21 and older 320GB). Support up to 2TB external.

Genie (HR34, HR44, HR54) have 1TB internal, Genie-2 (HS17) has 2TB: Early was suggested up to 4TB external, but no official hard cap. Some have used 12TB or more, though even now still seems overkill to me.

Note: Revised 3rd generation Genie (HR54R1), and all Genie-2 after 1st run (no revised designator, R1 or other) do not have an eSATA port. (another point of AT&T taking control away from customers I feel). This is another factor in my interest for the new company's direction on hardware innovation.

On non-returnable models, some have gone through 3rd party process to swap internal drive. The downside of external is that the internal is disabled while it is connected to prevent unauthorized transferring. And though you can unplug and return to using the internal, the port wasn't built to do that too many times like a regular computer. So having a larger internal drive is more convienient, and can give life back if one has the included drive failing.
