Direct tv streaming

I have 2 boxes and 4 TVs can I stream to the other TVs without purchasing a box or the streaming service? The TVs are smart TVS!

Certain TVs are "DirecTV Ready". This means they have an RVU Client built-in. Serves the purpose of a Mini Genie Client.

You still pay $7 for each additional TV, regardless if it has a box or not. You are not paying for equipment, but service.

It was a limited run idea. The TV had to be always connected to internet to receive software updates from the TV maker. These updates were not timely. And anything that made it not work, you would not get support from DirecTV as not their product. You would have to get a box anyway if it was no longer supported. Also it relied on the TV for processing, so often was slower than a dedicated box.

Clients (RVU or Mini Genie) are not proper receivers. They have no tuners or recording space, so cannot work without the main Genie. So for many people, they are a downgrade to an HDDVR.

An HDDVR has 2 tuners, 500GB recording space (HR21 and older had 320GB), and since a full receiver can work even if the Genie doesn't (or separate cabling for RV users, detached garage, etc. that has a 2nd dish). Though obtaining an HDDVR and activating it has been problematic in the last year per stocking issues and focusing on Genie setups. There is also HD non-DVR (i.e. H25). Has 1 tuner, Autotune, and though doesn't record it can watch what the others have recorded.

Now that another company is sharing ownership of DirecTV with AT&T, I hope to hear their future equipment plans. We need more dedicated receiver/HDDVRs, not locked to Clients only.

@Freedom8675

The DirecTV app is not available on any Roku device (including TV), Firestick, etc. So there is no login available. I suspect you have the DIRECTV STREAM app which is a completely separate TV provider.

DirecTV is satellite TV. It forbids the app from being available on any TV device as you do not get a free TV on the service. You pay $7 for each authorized TV.

DIRECTV STREAM is a streaming-only service and is available on devices for TVs. It has gone through a couple rebrands such as AT&T TV NOW and originally DIRECTV NOW. The latest rebrand is the new co-owner.

What the OP heard of was a DirecTV Ready TV, also known as an RVU Client. This is a TV with the purpose of a Mini Genie Client built-in. Still has to be installed on the coax by a DirecTV tech like a box would be. It is not an app to login.
