DIRECTV app on Roku tv?

Can’t seem to get the DIRECTV app(not stream) on my Roku tv working.  Is it possible or do I need a different tv brand?

No, not possible. For every TV you want service on you need to get a DIRECTV receiver. This comes with the $7 access fee.

You can, however, download a channel’s dedicated app and login via TV EVERYWHERE with DIRECTV as your TV provider.

Sorry I wasn’t clear. The tv I’m trying to use the app on is in a camper and would not be located at the dish site.
So I can watch on my phone anywhere I am through the app. I want to do the same on my camper tv.

Unfortunately, the same rule applies. However, if you are able to get a Wi-Fi hotspot or connectivity to that Roku TV, you can download a channel’s app from the Roku store (I.e. ESPN app) and sign in with DIRECTV as your TV provider to watch on-demand and live TV content.

Usually, subscribers of DIRECTV satellite bring a receiver from home and have a portable satellite setup consisting of either a tripod or non-penetrating roof mount, an HD SWM SLIMLINE dish, and obviously all the necessary tools to aim the dish accurately. Any sort of SD equipment or SD dish is being phased out as we speak so if you decided to go this route you should get an H24 or H25 receiver and a SWM HD SLIMLINE SL3 dish.

Thanks for the info. I do have Starlink for rv for internet connection. Crazy that I can watch on my phone or iPad but not directly through the tv. Thanks again.

The new Directv app now allows casting so if you have a way to cast from iPhone or iPad to your TV, that should work.

The intention for DirecTV (satellite, not DIRECTV STREAM), is that you pay $7 for each authorized TV. To prevent avoiding that, and account sharing, they have not allowed streaming/casting to the TV from the phone app. This is why the classic app has not been available on Roku, Roku TV, Firestick, or any other TV streaming device.

For campers, RV, and the like was to get your own slimline SWM dish on a tripod/sled mount or the Winegard Trav'ler with taking a compatible receiver/HDDVR with you.

My understanding is that this was not to change with the new combined app for DirecTV and DIRECTV STREAM. But a lot is up in the air with the new app, including bugs they need to address.

I was able to mirror from my phone. Was not 100% stable. Trying to avoid tying up my phone.
Thanks for the explanation, makes sense they are trying to keep folks from abusing the service.

@Juniper The new app does allow it. It was even advertised as one of the reasons for upgrading to the new app.

@sandblaster

They advertised streaming to the TV for DirecTV (satellite)? I missed that in how it was advertised. I know that will make a lot of people happy. Once the bugs are fixed that is.

@sandblaster

If casting from an iPad or iPhone it uses the AirPlay feature which Rokus don’t support. I’m not sure how Android casting works but otherwise this ‘casting’ in the app isn’t possible on every streaming device or TV out in the wild.

@detuch254 I know that, I’m only pointing out the new app allows casting. If you noticed, in my first response to the OP I qualified it with “if you have a way to cast from iPhone or iPad to your TV”.

@Juniper Yes. I don’t remember exactly where I saw that, I think it was on a pop up on the old app urging me to upgrade to the new app. Something else I got on the new app is my local channels available to stream. None of them were available to stream on the old app.

I just bought a Roku tv to put in the kitchen. I have Direct TV satellite. Will the new Direct TV app be available on the Roku tv allowing me to watch the programs in my Direct tv satellite package?

I just found out yesterday that there is a Directv App for Roku. With it, you can log into either Directv Stream if you have that service or you can login to Directv Satellite. It worked for me. You do not get the complete list of channels you have on your satellite, but it is quite a few. It is possible that it will be limited outside of your home. I used it on my TV and it worked.

According to a DTV receiver message that I saw yesterday the DTV app is now available on Roku.
