Dispute with TEGNA

Good morning. I'm writing to just say that it is ridiculous this "back and forth" for more revenue. Realize that many people don't have the funds to keep paying price hikes because your company wants more money. That's just greed. Because of this, we can't watch our local channels. FIGURE IT OUT AND STOP PRICE GAUGING.

@Juniper you sound like a plant. I pay my monthly subscription fees to DirecTV. I expect them to do better and they are missing the mark.  Customers should be shielded from this nonsense! I’d never even heard of this other company until now and this isn’t the first time we’ve experienced this problem with other channels. What I DO know is antennas are stone age, streaming is the future and cable/satellite is becoming antiquated. I’ll take YouTube TV at this point.

You would be wrong then. I am not a plant.

Tegna is the owner going through negotiations right now. And they did this exact stunt about 3 years ago. DirecTV just finished one recently with Nexstar (which may have been the worst over the years). These carriage negotiations are not permanent.

Antennas are NOT stone age. They may not work for you but they are still viable for many of us. As I have mentioned many times, not all of us live where we can rely on internet for streaming-only.

Nothing forces Tegna to provide the feed to DirecTV. And nothing forces DirecTV to accept the higher costs. As for shielding you either (if you can) use an antenna, put the courtesy credit that DirecTV provides as a courtesy towards a temporary streaming service (if you can rely on streaming), or be patient (not addicted to a single local or two) and watch one of the many other channels you have.

Or just go to YouTube TV. Just understand they are not free from any negotiations either. No matter the delivery method they still have to get temporary permission to carry the content. So if anything goes away after switching (whether soon or later) don't go crying to YouTube as you know how it works and your options.

You are paying DTV to deliver channels by satellite and that is what you are getting, same as You Tube being delivered via the internet.

Probably a big reason why package changes never came with a new service agreement. There was never any guarantee that any specific channel was always there as they can change at any time. So you pay for the delivery methods, not a promise of certain channels.

I agree.  DirecTv needs to figure out how to insure that local channels (ABC, CBS and NBC) always remain available to subscribers, even during disputes.  I understand disputes for premium cable channels, since I have the choice of what packages to subscribe to.  DirecTv needs to stop finger pointing and reach agreement with Tegna immediately.

If only DirecTV and other TV providers had the power do to that.

Locals cannot remain during a dispute because that is the reason they are gone in the first place. The channel owner (Tegna in this case) has pull the channels they own away because they want to increase the cost. DirecTV has no power to have them return the feed immediately other then allowing the price to go up.

You say DirecTV needs to stop finger pointing and just get the channel(s) back now. So you are fine telling Tegna you are willing to pay whatever they want? Then contact Tegna and offer them your bank account because I don't want to pay more for channels that are free over-the-air, and some that I may not get in the first place because I'm not in their area.
