How can I watch the substations on tv like 25.3 or 19.2 on my televsion and not with my PC?
I like watching some of the substations like the artsy PBS station (or the cooking one, yum!), but DirectTV apparently does not supply the .2, .3, .4 sort of stations. Is there a way to get around the Direct system or do I need to find a used tv set and watch them from it? Watching things from my PC is a pain because the screen is too small and the resolution is not equal to my television set.

You need a OTA antenna connected to the TVs digital tuner to get the available sub channels.

An OTA???? What is that? A regular antennae? It's already hooked up, but not in use, apparently.

If your over-the-air (OTA) antenna is hooked up to your TV, then perhaps it's not able to pick up those stations. Check out www.antennaweb.org , enter your location, and see what stations are available at your location.
At any rate, as mentioned, DirecTV doesn't deliver those main station's sub-channels.

Correct OTA = Over The Air antenna. You have to change the TVs input to whatever input your TV calls it to get the OTA sub channels maybe ANT.

Direct help: There is no such icon. There is only the bell, a letter and empty space. To the left, there is direct.tv, which is not the right place. Unless it is further down on the page, but there is not such icon there either.

Shannon02, I looked at the tv, gonna have to find out what is what back there because it is all in some mysterious code. So, it's off to find the website to figure out what color of wire goes where. Crossing my fingers, here!

Most OTA antennas use coax cable to connect to the coax input on the TV.

DirecTV does not supply sub-channels (such as 2.4 or 2-4) for most areas. Check www.directv.com/locals to see what is available for your zip code and county.
For any channels DirecTV does not provide, you use a regular over the air (OTA) antenna. You connect it to your TV normally by the coax (often labeled ANT) and tune your TV to ANT just like you would for HMDI-1, HDMI-2, etc. Then you get whatever is in range of your antenna.

Antennas don't have colored wires, they have a coax cable (screw in) that gets connected to the ant/cable port on the tv.
