I fixed the FETV stretched picture!
On the Directv remote, go to Menu > Settings > Display > Video, and change the Screen Format to "Pillar Box". That made FETV display properly as a SD 4:3 aspect ratio and all the channels receiving HD channels still fill the screen as they should.
