Has it? Well unfortunately I don’t live in Washington, DC so I couldn’t confirm with you if this is happening. In order for me to confirm, I would need to live in the same market as you. Either way, a call to DIRECTV should fix you up. There number is in my greeting below. As a side note, it may also be worth it to call or message the station itself so they are aware of the situation. Sometimes DIRECTV representatives fail to get your concern fixed or sent to the proper department.
Yes they are aware of it. I noticed it first several weeks ago. But we all know it’s really a receiver problem./s
My contact there tells me:
Through the Olympics until yesterday, DirecTV was using a fiber optic cable path between our NBC Hub operations In Denver, to the DirecTV satellite uplink in Kansas City. Apparently the interim fiber cable suffered what’s known as ‘backhoe fade’ somewhere between Colorado and Kansas City.
Fortunately, Verizon recently installed a brand new fiber cable between our studios in Washington D.C. and the DirecTV uplink in Herndon. We are providing them NBC-4 programming down the new cable, but their technical folks are delayed in switching over to the new link. In the meantime, they claim the priority is to restore the path between Kansas City to Denver, because of not being sure when they can get tech’s to make the cross-connect to the new path in Herndon. We have no idea when either of these options will be completed.
@barrydrucker let's hope they aren't that delayed! I'm not saying that's impossible. If they can't easily get the problem fixed, it's estimated time for complete restoration could extend into 2023.
Just spent almost an hour on the phone with DTV tech support. At first they wouldn't admit to the pixelation issue, wanted to blame it on my equipment. After pointing out to them this is an issue being experienced by multiple customers and that it is an issue with their uplink the tech simply said they are working to fix the issue but couldn't / wouldn't say when it would be fixed! As expected, no real action out of DTV. Same old story just repeating itself.
I mailed DirecTv a letter (as the e-mail the person provided bounced) at:
DirecTV
2230 East Imperial Highway
El Seguno, CA 90245
I again described my frustration at this problem, and the fact that they do not want to do anything. It is their problem, not WRC/NBC-4. I enclosed all the information I had, removing the names of the folks at the station. That was 11/7. Nothing.
Remember folks: "It is always your equipment". The same antiquated stuff we are still paying a fortune for.
Call the station and complain. I am not divulging e-mails of anyone there I correspond with.
