Problems recording a Directv Streaming program to the online DVR
Have had Directv Premier (satellite) at this address for almost 2 decades, with two receivers (H20-100(no DVR!!!) & H24-200) and dealt with the weather blackouts Recently replaced a TV with one that has the Google TV system in it, so decided to try Streaming. Downloaded the app and logged in and all is good. Now the issue, was trying to record a program, to Directv's online DVR, when in streaming mode (from the app on the TV) and the system says, it is attempting to contact the H20-100 receiver, to set it up. No DVR in it, so its not going to work. Have clicked Options, during the program record set up, to select a different recording "site" and get a blank list. My account knows the two receivers and hopefully, that they do not have a DVR AND shouldn't I automatically have access to my 20hr supply of online DVR recording, from Directv Streaming? Going to My Library, in the app, MY RECORDING, Find you recordings here is empty.
So how do I set up the Directv Streaming, to record to to my online DVR?

Satellite service has 'some' streaming perks. Uses physical DVRs.
The other is streaming-only. This uses cloud (online) DVR.
DVR options cannot be mixed, swapped, etc. They are separate. Yes the streaming-only service has caused a lot of debate and confusion.

bcbsncjlj, why was this moved? If I have issues with content and functions, coming over the Internet, is that NOT Streaming?
Is not the Directv Forums for those, that have issues with satellite received content?

You are streaming DTV sat channels to the DTV app not streaming using the DTV via internet AKA DTV streaming service.

Shannon02, there may be a subtle distinction here.
Does Directv have a Stream service, that they stream specific shows to be watched, on demand (Directv Stream) and they ALSO stream (almost) everything they send up to their satellites (doesnt have a name)?
If yes, is only the first case, able to be recorded to the "online DVR" and not the second case?

That's right. DirecTV Satellite and DirecTV Stream are two different services, even though they have the same app. Only DirecTV Stream can save recordings to the cloud. DirecTV Satellite should allow you to set up recordings to your DVR using the App.

DTV sat service provides satellite channels with access to On Demand and some channels that can be streamed to the app. Not having DTV via the internet AKA DTV streaming I have no idea what they can provide all I know is having one doesn't get you access to the other.

Ok, just posted on the my other thread (sorry about this), talking and asking about this distinction. I DID NOT KNOW THIS. Apologies.
And, has Directv ever posted anything, anywhere about they would be offering these two "services" and what each would allow? All I see is STREAM, which I figured was "satellite programming and on-demand, via the Net", which was what I was using.

When AT&T bought DTV years ago they started their streaming service DTV Now IIRC that became DTV via internet AKA DTV streaming that has always been a separate service. AT&T then sold off 30% of DTV and the new partners took over both services.

Directv seems to be pressing much more, with their "streaming" service, as I constantly see ads for it and reports about satellite and cable TV subscriber numbers are dropping.

The naming causes confusion. There are two completely separate services.
DirecTV - This is by satellite. There is NO online DVR. You would need an HR model for DVR (i.e. HR24).
DIRECTV STREAM - This is a streaming-only service. Think along the lines of Hulu, Netflix, etc. but with TV channels. It has a cloud (online) based DVR.
As they are separate providers there is no way to connect the two, even for DVR purposes.

Juniper, some have said, there are three modes of watching Directv, satellite, Stream (separate account?) and Internet (???).
I also have a thread going, about missing channels on the non-satellite provided "service" here.
So, using my existing Directv account, and a Google TV loaded TV or separate device (Shield TV), using the Directv app, is that just STREAM?

While it is streaming you only get what DTV sat service can provide so there really is no streaming of all sat services.

The streaming service has had multiple names over the years: DIRECTV TV NOW, AT&T TV NOW / AT&T TV, DIRECTV STREAM, and recently DirecTV by Internet.
So DirecTV vs the streaming-service (regardless of name) are separate accounts and services. The naming of the new service has caused no end to confusion since it was launched.
Using the app you are still using your DirecTV service. But those are secondary perks so not all channels or content is available. The app is accessing those perks but is still originating from your satellite service. You are not paying for DIRECTV STREAM.

Right, the online DVR is only provided with the streaming service. DTV sat service provides a real one.
