Recording failure

I currently have three receivers, one in my bedroom, one in the living room and one in my den.  When I set the DVR to record in my bedroom, it says the program has recorded, however, when I go to watch the show it immediately asks me if I want to delete it.  When I check my receiver in the living room I get the following on my screen: "Playback failed. No audio/video data packets received from server". This has happened more than once. What is the cause, and do I need a new receiver? Thanks for any feedback and/or assistance I can get in this regard. Also, and I'm not sure if this makes a difference or not, but I don't have Internet service through DTV, only TV.

What are the models of each "receiver"?

Which one is doing the recording that is having issues?

Have you red button reset the boxes or any other troubleshooting?

Also, and I'm not sure if this makes a difference or not, but I don't have Internet service through DTV, only TV.

DirecTV doesn't provide internet service. They are a satellite TV provider, not an ISP.

Juniper, thanks so much for your prompt response. I checked model numbers of the 3 receivers; the one in the bedroom is HR24-500; the living room is HR44-700 and the one in the den looks like a mini receiver and even with a magnifying glass and flashlight I couldn't make out the model number. The receiver in the bedroom is the one doing the recording and having the issue. As far as red-button resetting and troubleshooting, I have done nothing except look to the forums for some answers and this was only after I was unable to watch the season finale of Survivor. Thankfully, I was able to watch it on my phone! Thank you.

As far as DirecTV not providing Internet service, all I can say is, duh ...

One cause of this is a poor signal to the HR24 and the HR44 could also be doing this.

As there is no "mini receiver", I suspect that is a Mini Genie Client, an extension of the Genie (HR44). It would start C for the model number (C31, C41, etc.).

Yes, the power off and on again or red button reset is basic troubleshooting for most electronics out there. However, with your setup, I would suggest something a specific order.

First verify that the coax to each box is finger tight.

Red button reset the boxes one at a time in a specific order.

(don't start a reset until after the other is finished)

Genie (HR44) > Mini Genie > regular HDDVR (HR24) > HD non-DVR (if you had any)

This may only fix recordings going forward, not anything you had already recorded. Also check to see if the recording that is having an error shows complete (such as 30 minutes or an hour, not a minute or so).

If the reset doesn't fix it, then you can try a full power cycle. This is unplugging power for at least a minute. Use the same order as the reset. Difference is this will drain information out of memory, which could clear any corrupt data causing the issue. This would also dump the guide data, which would download again from the satellites (completed within 24-48hrs), so is the last option to try. Anything already scheduled to record would still go through after reset or power cycle (not during of course).

Cable companies provide both internet and TV through their service, so understandable your mentioning internet through DirecTV even though it doesn't exist. We all have a brain on autopilot or locks in default options once in a while.
