Tegna - Directv dispute

Its now 2024, how much longer will this blackout last? The streaming option is (Edited per community guidelines). If I want to stream all my local stations then why am I paying for Directv?

This is becoming ridiculous! You cant even stream the NBC shows because your service is connected to Directv.

About ready to throw out Directv after 20+ years

Directv says the dispute is all about keeping our rates down.  But mine went up TWICE last year in Feb and Dec, a total of $18/mo.  SMDH

Right, they had to raise it in Oct. instead of in Jan. when they usually do.

20% increase in less than 1 year.  Makes the argument that they are trying to.keep.our costs down seem a little disingenuous to me.  Try again

I tried to apply for blackout credit as listed below

but have yet to see it show up on my DTV billing.

Has anyone received said credit??

when I sign into my account (DTV via Satellite) as instructed it does not take me to anywhere to apply for credit, anyone know the secret.

>>>>>     We’re (DTV) pursuing every avenue to get your station back and continue to offer temporary bill credits to try to make up in some small manner for this very large inconvenience. We know you have a choice among providers and appreciate your patience and continued loyalty. Thank you for being a DIRECTV customer.

To thank you for your patience, until the situation is resolved, we're offering you a one-time credit of $10:

First of all there is a annual price adjustment BECAUSE of increases from the networks. All TV providers have to deal with those higher costs. All they can do is minimize the impact, not prevent it.

Normally the adjustment happens in January (which may show on your February bill depending on when your cycle starts over). This last time the adjustment happened a bit earlier in November which is outside the norm.

If Tegna gets the increase they want, then that adds that much more to the next price adjustment. The more DirecTV's costs go up the more they have to adjust bills to help compensate. Minimizing the cost helps both of us by association.

Certainly they are negotiating for their own business interests not out of the kindness of their heart. But the better they make out in the next carriage deal the better (or less worse if you prefer) it is to us customers.

So you try again to see the whole picture instead of cherry picking what you can just to say "poor me".

At this point, I'm sure there is plenty of blame to go around.  Do I believe Tegna is the MORE guilty party here... yes.  But do I have my head in the sand and think DirecTV has NO part in the dragging out of this negotiation... I'm not ready to go there either.

I have been loyal to DirecTV for over 20 years.  They won my business way back when because of exclusivity of NFL Sunday Ticket.  Back then there wasn't as many options as today.  Now they lost Sunday ticket (which I get... numbers were crazy) and the increase in consumer options (streaming) hasn't led to more competitive pricing.  Now, I'm not naive to think prices with any product or service are going down by any stretch... but I still find myself shocked as lack of acknowledgement by companies like DirecTV that the landscape is changing and we need to embrace and adapt with our loyal customers.  Maybe they should give Blockbuster a call.

As I said I don't soley blame DirecTV or anyone... but if I miss an NFL playoff game over this, I will start evaluating various streaming services and at least dip my toes in the water of replacement options.  This is enough of an annoyance to "shop around."  And I know most/all options needs to negotiate with "pirates" like Nexstar and Tegna, but who knows where an information gathering evaluation might go.

Does anyone know if any streaming options just give the National feeds the networks?  I don't care one bit about local anything.

Yes this negotiation is a two-street. Neither company is doing this purely for the benefit of us customers. Since increases to DirecTV's operating cost factor into higher rates for us, that is why I am against Tegna.

I understand the desire for a streaming option for the NFL Sunday Ticket. However, I would have liked to seen an option launched alongside DirecTV's broadcast. Many do not have good enough internet (if they have it at all) to support streaming for their dedicated TV. So I worry that decision was jumping the gun as the nationwide infrastructure, compared to in-home usage (more devices using bandwidth), is not yet up to the task.

Wish regular antenna was viable for more viewers. That way it could be used to stand against this rate hikes by using the free broadcast. And those that can use them, but refuse because they consider it an ancient technology that insults them, need to get over their overinflated sense of entitlement.

Better question - Direct TV is saving how many thousands during this tie. Where is the rebate to us customers for the lack of programming that we pay for? The moment that the issue arose and payments stopped to Tegna, they should have started to the consumers. Payment or a reduction in the subscription rates should be automatic and immediate. This has become a windfall for Direct TV, at our expense.

If they were truly worried about our rates due to these thugs at Tegna, they would lower the rates after a multiple month blackout while they collect nothing from Tegna.  Spend our time "applying" or calling in? If you are truly worried about the value WE receive for this programming, don't make us jump through hoops for a minimal credit. As the message says, contract has expired. They are not paying Tegna for these channels, but they are still collecting money from their customers for channels included in the package that are currently blacked-out.  They obviously have placed a "value" on these channels if they claim to know a proposed new contract would result in a rate increase.... so automatically pro-rate credits if you are truly concerned with customer costs and value

It would be nice if DirecTV & DirecTV Stream could broadcast the CBS, ABC, NBC & Fox national broadcasts. In the Washington DC market it is WUSA Channel 9 that is impacted by the dispute with Tegna. I have WUSA 9 through my Paramount Plus account so it hasn't been an issue for me but for the amount of money we pay we should be getting every channel in the lineup. I have to watch OAN through the Roku channel & I still miss AWE. At least DirecTV Stream still has AXS TV which is the main reason that I haven't switched over to another streaming service.
