Telephone scam ???
phone call saying to turn on my tv so my receiver can be upgraded to prevent loss of some channels plus I will receive a fifty dollar reduction in my bill and a senior discount. when accuse him of being a (Edited per community guidelines) scammer gives me 604-9000-250 number to call direct tv and confirm. any one else getting these calls?

Receivers don't need to be turned on to receive updates DTV generally sends updates at 2 AM to reduce the impact on viewers. DTV has never had a senior or any other group discount. Sounds like a scam.

Software updates come automatically through the satellites. So that call was an absolute scam.
There is a real situation of DirecTV shutting down some old feeds and are providing a complimentary swap of equipment for affected customers. These scammers are trying to piggy back off that to trick people. The real situation has you call DirecTV publicly listed phone number. They don't call you.
As long as all your boxes are H or HR models then you don't have to call DirecTV. If you have anything else, if you post the model numbers of your boxes than the community can give guidance.
