Too many TVs on at one time

I live in a two-story house and rent out two rooms.  There are 5 TVs in the house, one of which is rarely used.  However, when I have my TV upstairs in my bedroom on, the TV in the room downstairs below my bedroom shows an error message stating that there are too many TVs on, so won't work, and vice-versa -- if the downstairs TV is on, the upstairs one won't work.  I don't think the TVs in the two downstairs rooms I'm renting out to tenants have any problem, so not sure how to figure this out.  Perhaps the two TVs that are closest to each other are affected, as the two rental rooms are on the other side of the house.  Please let me know what I must do to make sure all these FOUR TVs can work concurrently, as the 5th one would never be used while one of the others was being used.

U-verse TV can by default deliver a maximum of four simultaneous streams. It is possible to raise it higher but it also depends on you internet plan. (and very low internet plans might have the limit setup for max 2 streams)
Keep in mind if you are recording a show, that recording does count as a stream. So if you are recording 2 shows, then 2 tvs are on, you used up all your streams. If you want to raise the number of streams, then call 800-288-2020. but 1st check the article below.
Learn here about number of streams:

@AtomicPotato , user posted under the DIRECTV forum, not U-verse TV.  It does look like he is talking about U-verse TV, though.

@DonnasCommunity , can you confirm that you have U-verse TV?

Which TV provider do you have (DirecTV, U-Verse TV, etc.)?

If DirecTV, what are the models of each box you have?

I have Direct TV.  Not sure what you mean by "box."  I'm fairly technologically ignorant.  I don't know the model names of all the TVs, but they all run off my Dell computer and  AT&T modem.

DTV doesn't use a computer or a modem but a DTV receiver on each TV.

That doesn't help me.  I'm trying to call the Customer Service number, but of course they've got a robot answering, and they want to know the error message number that's showing up, so I'm going to have to get that later.

DTV Genie receivers HR44/54 can only stream to 3 TVs at a time plus the Genie can send to a TV so only 4 TVs can be in use at the same time.

That's the most that would possibly be used at one time -- four.

Good evening @DonnasCommunity, we are happy to help with your DirecTV!

@shannon02 is correct, you can view live or recorded programming in up to four different rooms simultaneously, including the TV to which the receiver is connected, plus three remote TVs throughout the home. More information on stream capabilities is available here.

Additionally, there are five tuners available to record and if more than two are in use, it will limit the streams available for viewing on other TVs. Instructions for viewing your scheduled recordings are available here.

Please let us know if this helps.

We have 4 TVs (and one that's never used), and we should be able to watch 4 at a time, since there are 2 TVs in 2 tenants' rooms, 1 TV in my bedroom upstairs, and 1 TV in a room downstairs where a friend is staying.  I don't know anything about streaming -- we just all want to watch TV at the same time sometimes!  There's got to be some way AT&T can arrange this to occur!  Let me know if I need to purchase some additional machinery.

I also have a computer, but never watch TV on it or on my cellphone.

Do I have to pay another company to handle our viewing on one or more TVs?

DirecTV is satellite TV service. It requires a receiver box or client on each TV to receive the service. You do not get the service through your modem as it is not a internet streaming device.

Model number is on the bottom of the box, or behind a door on the front panel (where the access card is located).

Based on your issue, most likely you have a Genie receiver (HR34, HR44, HR54 / HR5R1) and Mini Genie Clients (C31, C41, etc.) with no other boxes.

Genie is a 5 tuner HDDVR. Clients have no tuners, so each steals one from the main Genie. The main box keeps 2 tuners to itself, because of the Picture in Picture (PiP) feature leaving only 3 remaining tuners for the Clients. This means that no matter how many Clients you have, you can only use at most 4 TVs at the same time (Genie and 3 Clients).

If the Genie/Client situation is what is happening, then you have options. You can get a HD non-DVR (1 tuner, has Autotune, and though cannot record it can watch the recordings of the other boxes) or an HDDVR (2 tuners, 500GB recording space) to replace your 4th Client. Plus it does not require the Genie to work since is a full receiver. If you get one before you qualify for a free upgrade then the one-time lease cost is $99 (HD non-DVR) or $199 (HDDVR) per box.
