Upgraded to Choice, can’t stream Choice channels

Hi all,

On 9/1 I upgraded from Basic to Choice. However the DTV iOS app still shows me having Basic and I can’t stream the Choice channels. They don’t stream online, in the app, or in any individual network apps. DTV support has been very unhelpful and given me a different answer each time. 

I have a genie 2 and just one receiver if that makes a difference. I have also gone online and done a refresh of the signal and reset. I also reset the genie and receiver. On my phone I have logged in/out and reinstalled the app a couple times. 

Any ideas?? Much appreciated.

We know that the new app has bugs in it so this maybe another one.  If possible try the old one.

Yeah unfortunately I have the same issue there and on the www.directv.com/guide page. 

I’m planning to keep the old app as long as I can.

DTV doesn't have a channel package labeled Basic only Family (unadvertised), Entertainment then Choice.

I would recheck the name of the packages as there is no going from Basic to Choice.

There is Basic Choice and Preferred Choice which are special packages for an international programming setup. But they both have "Choice" so cannot go from Basic to Choice.

The app lists it as Basic and so did my Account Overview until yesterday. It was one they offered me instead of completely cancelling. 

Either way, only those channels I had before work for streaming yet they all work on the actual tv.

‘Basic’ isn’t a channel package. Perhaps they messed something up when they changed your programming package. It’s best to call DIRECTV back and say that you are having issues with viewing channels on the app and online. They will be able to correct your package and get everything going. 

If I understand this correctly, you can view channels from the Choice Package on your receivers but NOT on the DIRECTV app or online DIRECTV? This could definitely be due to the fact that your online account still says ‘Basic.’ Therefore, all apps think this is the case. However, your equipment reflected the change after they were refreshed.

Yeah I think that’s correct. The issue is that they’ve already told me they can’t solve it 4 or 5 times. I think I’ll just cancel it outright. Thanks for the input.

There hasn't been a package "basic" by itself so that is weird. And the "Basic Choice" and "Preferred Choice" are for international setups, which sounds like you don't have.

Family, Select, Entertainment, Choice, Xtra (or Preferred Xtra if you are not a sports watcher), Ultimate, and Premier have been the packages for years.

But, any streaming perks are being updated right now. Both because of the new integrated app (DirecTV and DIRECTV STREAM) but also the new co-owner which has been redesigning the webiste. Bugs along the way are to be expected.

Ok thanks. So you think there’s some possibility they get this sorted pretty quickly? It has really ruined my whole setup to not have streaming option so I’m trying to decide if I should cancel now or wait another couple days. 

I looked at my bill and you’re right, the package is called Select on there and Basic in the app.

I don't know about "quickly". This is a transition state while the new co-owner takes control and updates the website and the new integrated app. Unfortunately we cannot predict how well it will go, so will have to see how the days ahead are as they come.

A side note: As you went from Select to Choice, you did drop Hallmark Movies & Mysteries (565). It is only in Select, Entertainment, Preferred Xtra, and Premier. It is still part of the small Movies Extra Pack add-on if ever you want it with Choice. Mentioning as many are unaware of how that channel works, including newer DirecTV employees as the update a few years ago had no big annoucement.
