Watching recorded shows on Iphone

I have recorded several shows on my home DIRECTV DVR and would like to watch them on my iPhone and/or Sony TV while in another state.  When I use the iPhone app I can see my recorded shows, but if try to watch I get an error message saying, "Not available to stream on this device.  The owner of this channel has made it available to watch only on your TV."

You have to download the programs to your device before you leave home as DTV no longer supports streaming from the Genie when outside of your home network.

That’s a bug with the newer app, you are at loss. If you still somehow have the older ‘DIRECTV on the Go’ application on your iPhone then you can use that to watch recordings. Just be sure to have model HR44 or above. Also, you’ll need to download these recordings beforehand. This process requires that your device be connected to the same network as your Genie HD DVR.

ok, thanks.  So if I'm not home, I can't record and then watch shows?

You can use the app to setup recordings when they fix the bugs and AFAIK you can still go to the DTV website to setup recordings there.

This is a customer to customer forum, DTV doesn't tell us anything.

YouTube TV has less channels than DIRECTV (obviously) but it definitely is much cheaper. If it has the channels you like I believe they currently have a free trial so you can try it out. Streaming devices or smart TVs are required for each TV you want service on.
