Web access

When is access to DirecTV content going to work using web browser? I know, there is supposedly a player on Windows, I have never been able to make that work. I would like to use web browsers on PCs, Mac, Chrome OS, and Linux. When I trialed STREAM, it worked for web access; why don't they just use the same technology on both Satellite and STREAM? That would go a long way to keep me as a long term Satellite user.
