Apple TV app STUCK at Choose service screen

For days now, I have restarted, deleted and reinstalled, deleted, restarted and reinstalled, unplugged and just about every other variety of sequences and still, once I log in and it gets to the screen with 'Choose on of your Directv services to start watching', nothing happens. I can select either options all day long and it doesn’t even seem to notice the remote click. 

I recently changed my password and every other TV in the house launched without fail but the 2 Apple TVs are both having the same issue.

I have updated TVOS to current version, the 2 Apple TV models are both the 4k second gen. I have made sure the directv app is the most current version, I logged out and logged back in to my provider account on the Apple TV which is also the Directv account. I can login on browsers and iPad app with no issues, as well.

Please advise.

That's probably the issue. You need to use different credentials for DirecTV Stream. It confuses the app since they combine the services into one app. The easiest way to remedy the issue is to cancel the service and re-subscribe using a different email/password.

I am dealing with the same issue. None of my Apple TVs allow me past the selection screen. I can log in with Roku, my iPhone and computer. Frustrating as some techs say it’s Apple’s issue when I know it’s not. I asked to get my DirecTV stream and satellite delinked but they claimed that won’t work. When I log into directv’s site I log into stream and then select satellite. I no longer have stream. I tried changing my stream login but it also changes my satellite log in so they are linked. I’m going to call again tomorrow. I called back in August or early September when I noticed the issue and can’t believe the issue isn’t resolved. 

Can someone from DirecTV please escalate this as it’s very frustrating!!!

SOLVED!!!!!!!

I called DirecTV and was transferred to Stream to d-link accounts. Turns out I could not d-link them so I was transferred to another area (DAC?).  I changed my DirecTV log in and made sure it was completely different from the Stream login (they were the same ID's or emails) and all my AppleTV's are now working. I had to make a secondary User ID and it all works now. You MUST delete the DirecTV app from your AppleTV or it will not work, not sure why but I had to delete the app and re-download them.

I can confirm it is NOT an Apple issue as it is an issue where Stream and Satellite are not allowing the same user ID/email to work. I think they called it "Collation" If you need the steps I can provide them to you as it is very easy to do.

I am just gladI got it resolved. I can say that the three techs I spoke with at DTV and Stream went above and beyond to resolve my issue and they were committed to resolving it. Unfortunately I cannot say that for the other techs as some said it's Apple's fault or just use a different streaming platform.

I just hope other DTV techs see this and use it to assist other people.

How do you create a secondary user?  I had stream for a week free trial back in 2019 when my roof got replaced and the dish was not aimed right.  Once the tech got out to repoint the dish, I canceled (didn't need it).

These days you can watch tv on the app just by a satellite subscription.  Works great on the 3 Roku's and 1 Google TV I have.  But I tried an Apple TV and sure the latest IOS 17.1, freshly downloaded DirecTV app - stuck at the choice between Stream and Sattelite.  So weird because it works fine on my iPhone and its all the same apple ID / TV Provider ID.

Are you using the same credentials for the service as you had for the Satellite service? Do you have linked accounts?

I did back in 2019.  I never paid for DirecTV Stream.  My Dish was misaimed because roofers put it back.  It got SOME channels but a lot of pixelation.  I made a service call for a real DirecTV tech to re-aim it properly.  but that was a few days out.  Instead of going without TV, back then you couldn't just watch it with your billing credentials.  That's just a nice feature they added fairly recently.

So I signed up for a 7 day free trial and yeah I used my same email, I really didnt have another but my work email, and I dont use that for anything but buisness purposes.

But even after canceling the trial, to this day when I log in on directv.com to look at my account, it gives me the option to "Restart DirecTV Stream", but in the upper right from the drop down I change it to the smaller account number (less digits) and then I can see my HR receivers and package, billing info, etc...

To get a new ID you must go to DirecTV.com and select sign in. Do NOT sign in. Instead click on “add user ID.” On the next page click on “Do not have a user ID? Create one now.” You will see DirecTV Stream and DirecTV connect via satellite. Click on satellite. Next you will need to enter your satellite account number along with your billing zip code. Once you enter that it should take you to register your account. I cannot recall what the steps are after that but you should be able to follow the steps. 

if you are having troubles call DirecTV and tell them what’s wrong and there is this forum and explain you need to add a secondary user to your satellite service.

I had the same email with Stream and Satelitte and you cannot have the same username as it won’t allow you to sign in. If you change your Stream username it will also change it for DirecTV and still will not work. They are linked and changing one username will change it for both. Not sure why but my accounts were not linked and they still had the same username even when I changed it on one account.

I did chat with support and they said to

Call DirecTV DAC team at 1-877-285-0118.  I’m going to try that when I get home.

Curious if I did the second account thing if I could avoid that and just use the second account name for AppleTV and continue to use the regular account name for iPhone, Roku and Google TV since those platforms are all signed in and operating normally.

Yes, the DAC team helped me. They should get it all taken care of and get you watching TV again.

About 45 min to an hour later Application support team conferenced me with someone on DAC team that knew what they were talking about.  I should be getting a call back at some point with a ticket number.  It takes the backend video team 3 to 5 business days to decouple the DirecTV Stream login from DirecTV Satellite login.  

4 years later after a simple 1 week trial of DirecTV stream, they still have my name and old acct number in the system.  I said they can delete it, I only have the Sat service.


NEED HELP?
