Apple TV Fast Forward 2x/3x/4x ("Click Only")
Hi again! (after decades with DirecTV Satellite, and leader at the other place)
Equipment: multiple Apple TV 4K's with remote(s) in "Click Only" mode or Bluetooth Function101 remotes.
Please update the Apple TV native app to support Fast Forward/Rewind for 1x/2x/3x/4x movement thru a recording.
Almost every app supports holding down the left or right arrow and moving at 1x/2x/3x/4x speeds.
Longtime fan of DirecTV, but in the current state, advancing hours thru a recording makes the Apple TV app unusable.
Note: Using Gemini is not an option, neither is Apple TV remote in "Click & Touch" mode, also tried Apple TV voice and that's non functional as well.
Environment is multiple Apple TV 4K's, one with dual Bluetooth Function101 remotes (which work great), but lack of FF/RW 1x/2x/3x/4x just makes the app unusable for recorded sporting events, and DirecTV is the only streaming service with all of my RSN's.
Thanks for the consideration, and glad to see DirecTV making a comeback.

Long time DirectTV Stream customer (Grandfathered GoBig!)
I would also like to see this.. I recently switched from a Roku TV to use AppleTV as my primary, and while I DO like the 30 second skip with 15 second skip back for 'right' and 'left' click respectively... (works nice for football games or skipping commercials).. I agree with the original poster that something like 'click right and hold' or 'click left and hold' to activate FF/RW 1x/2x/3x/4x would make this app perfect!

Any thoughts/updates on this? Really would like an update to this behavior if possible.

I'd like to see this too! Really basic functionality. Have tried with a universal remote as well as the touch wheel remote on newer AppleTVs. The only thing it will do is skip ahead and back. Frustrating

It's actually gotten worse. Now left and right arrow change the channel.
Oh my!

We appreciate you following up with this post, @Sixto. The left and right arrows triggering a channel change on your Apple TV setup is something we'd like to take a closer look into. We want to share this specific behavior directly with our app development team to review navigation controls for third-party configurations. To help us isolate this accurately, could you please provide these additional details from your current setup:
Your Apple TV 4K model
The current tvOS version installed on your Apple TV
The DIRECTV App version and build number (found under Account/Settings in the app)

Hi Kenneth.
While I've been a long time supporter of DirecTV and I was a significant beta test lead for over a decade at DBSTalk, the current Apple TV implementation is sadly unusable with the Apple TV remote in "click only" mode or with a universal remote.
I do keep getting asked for my configuration whenever I report anything. It's very simple. The current Apple TV (4K Gen 3) and standard remote, and the latest DirecTV app (5.0.134). A standard generally available configuration worldwide.
Open most any video app on the Apple TV, hit left to rewind, and right to fast forward. Open the DirecTV app and it changes the channel, unusable.
And before they switched it to a channel change, it was 15 or 30 seconds maximum for FF (30) and RW (15), which is very restricting for any sporting event. A potential workaround would have been it use Siri for significant FF and RW but that's also not implemented.
I also reported over a year ago that Search is broken when in grid mode, it overlays the screen with garbled text. Still broken.
Thanks for listening.

You're right about how that remote tracking works, and with your background at DBSTalk, you definitely know this platform inside out.
As a quick workaround for now, if you pause the video first, the left and right buttons will let you scrub through the timeline instead of changing the channel. That said, having to pause just to do basic fast-forwarding is clumsy. Missing out on native 1x/2x/3x/4x speeds makes watching recorded sports frustrating on "Click Only" or universal remotes.
We're gathering your feedback on these trick-play controls and the search layout text to send it straight to our engineering team. Thanks for keeping us honest and sharing your perspective. Charles, DIRECTV Community Team

This is the one thing keeping me from switching over to Directv from YouTube TV. I want to come back to Directv. I was a satellite customer from 92-93 thru 2015.
