"Are you still watching?"

I get this question often when I leave my TV on any ONE channel for several hours (usually 4 hrs)...and there's a count-down clock running that means the system is going to shut me down or change the channel if I don't respond within the next few seconds.

WHAT THE (Edited per community guidelines) BUSINESS IS IT OF DIRECTV REGARDING HOW LONG I WATCH A SINGLE CHANNEL?????

STAY OUT OF MY TV!!

I'll watch what I want to watch for as long as I want to watch it!

If you are using a Directv Streaming box go into settings by pressing the button that looks like a house on your remote control and going all the way over to where it looks like a gear then hit ok then go down to system and hit ok then hit ok on display and hit ok then go down to power saving and then select ok to turn it off.  This will keep the are you still watching message from popping up.

What device are you using to stream your Directv Streaming service?

How can I DISABLE this irritating intervention?

Shazamm!!   I'm on a DIRECTVStream control device connected by ethernet cable to an AT&T internet/phone router.  The device is connected via HDMI cable to a 40" Samsung Smart TV.

I can't imagine the router having anything to do with shutting me off after 4 hours.   Nor can I imagine my TV doing so.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the DIRECTVStream device.

However, I have been wrong several times in my 80 years on this earth!!

You are right it has nothing to do with your router or your tv and everything to do with your DirecTV stream device if you follow the directions I posted above it will turn that power-saving feature off so that your tv will not shut off or show that message after 4 hours.

If you are using a Firestick it is in the DATA USAGE MONITORING

TURN OFF, Still watching

It's setup to turn off data to the firestick when your tv is off.

That's why it keeps asking you if you are there.

I am using the app on my smart tv. The settings within the app does not have power settings and I have the sleep mode and power saving turned off in the tv setting but , I still get the message are you still watching. How can I turn this off.

This is beyond frustrating.  DirecTV does not have the options described above.  There is no power saving option in the settings/preferences.   Others posited that it might be coning from the FireTV (the acual FireTV not a fire stick) but Amazon also gotten rid of the Data Managment option, which used to let you turn off the "are you still there pop up.   Amazon insists it's coming from DirecTV.

@jktrauma

Do you have DirecTV or DIRECTV STREAM?

What device are you using to watch the service? (model number?)

Hi @Juniper ,

DirecTV Stream, watching it on a Toshiba FireTV (not a fire stick).    I've been through every single setting preference both for DIRECTV and the TV yet can't find anything.  I've toggled on/off all notifications, energy/data settings or anything that remotely could mask disabling the feature.

This has been a feature request to DirectTV for years. These idiots at DirectTV couldn't give two shits about fixing it.

If you "customer service and service focused" DirectTV engineering people, please fix this. It's soooooo easy to code, a monkey can do it.

It cannot be fixed any other way than code it into the DirectTV app.

Correct nothing is broken. Customers have requested this as a knob to turn off this so called "feature". If Direct TV actually LISTENED to their customers, they would make this an easy option. But the sheer fact that they don't give a (Edited per community guidelines) about customer requests points to a "who gives a (Edited per community guidelines) what the customer wants" type of attitude.

Yep plenty of other options.

For whatever reason, DirecTV has chosen not to change this feature. Listening to customers doesn't mean we get everything we want. So they have listened, but so far are staying the course. If the remaining owner (per AT&T's sale of their part) plans to change this, we do not yet know.

So at this point it is either continue with the service understanding this may not change soon (or ever) or go elsewhere that is more to your liking. Just time to face the reality of the situation and make your choice.

This is an incredibly annoying "feature." When I am watching something long (sporting event or other live show), it is the WORST TIME for this to come up. For example... when we turn on the Super Bowl, the channel is on for a while before the game even starts. So, inevitably when something big is happening toward the end of the game, this stupid message pops up and everyone starts scrambling so we don't miss too much. There should be an option to turn this off under settings.
