Bought a streaming box on eBay and cannot log out!

I bought an osprey on eBay and on one of them I cannot log out of someone else’s account!  Tried resetting…and it’s still logged in.  Are they locked to an account or something?  Any thing I can do to fix this!?

TIA

Try to go into settings---apps/storage.....then at the bottom of the list of apps it says system services. Scroll down to the Directv ones and clear cache/data on the one that says Directv Stream. I've read that works.

There is also a way to do a hard reset that starts the box from scratch I think u either do the red button reset 10 times in a row or it was like 10 seconds something like that. U might google it or search this board. If those don't work just do a live chat on directv stream's website. They'll log you out.

Tried both.  Cleared the cache and held the reset button.  It said it was resetting. Once it booted back up it was still logged in!  Going to try the chat route.

Thanks!

There is a "my streaming devices" when you login to dtv stream website and go to "account details" after u click onto the settings gear icon. U can make sure they have your serial number in there and also get support.

Oh I thought once it registered with your account it showed in there, even if bought by a 3rd party. They should make 3rd party boxes available there. They should also show every device/app you are using so u can logout of them. I see a lot of complaints about not being able to log out off devices even after changing password.

I’m a legacy account from DIRECTV now and none of that appears when I log in.  I can’t even purchase a stream device unless I switch my account.  So I had a long chat session and they said they would unlink the box from the previous owner but they have not done so.

Agreed.  It took a while just for them to get that it wasn’t my account logged in to the box that I couldn’t log out of!  I don’t have a lot of confidence in it happening.

So the conclusion was DIRECTV cannot or will not log the user out.  Ridiculous.  I tried clearing all the caches and data but no luck. It just always signs that user back in.
sigh

I suppose you tried "sign out" in the settings--account. Also there is a factory reset in the settings area that might act different than a red button reset.

Yup.  Tried it all.  If I hit sign out it goes to the blue screen then immediately says signing you in.  When I cleared all the data it brought me to the accept the terms screen.  Thought if I hit NO it would bring me to the login.  Nope.  Just said I had to accept to use.  Anyone know if there is some jumper inside the box to really clear it out?

When it signs you in --is that other account active?

There is a Directv Stream forum on reddit. I've contacted ATT support there before for help. U could also try that help to get that serial number associated with your account instead of the other. https://www.reddit.com/user/att

Funny thing.  They told me the other account had been cancelled.

How did you get this fixed?

I am having the same issue.  Unit is brand new, old owner never even took it out of the box to activate yet it's locked to his account\email address.

I tried factory reset, no google account added, etc.  When I hit sign-out, it just logs back in on its own.

I also tried to leave the internet unplugged and reboot, but then it just hangs at the logo w\progress bar.

DTV support said they will check on this but would take a few days.  So looking to see if someone else had a quick fix.

I was at the mercy of DTV.  They eventually sent a reset command.  It took a while.  I just left it connected to the internet and I want to say it took a day or two.

This sounds like the box at issue was set to “Auto Login” with the prior owner’s account. This would be true even if the prior owner never unpackaged the box and used it.

There is a way for the former owner to access his account and shut that off under device management.    Then, when the box is reset, you should be able to login to your own account.
