Channel flipping

We currently have Comcast and are thinking about switching to DirecTV streaming. My wife likes to flip through channels, just stopping briefly or skipping channels as she goes up and down. I have not seen how DirecTV looks and wonder if it allows flipping through channels like this.

Thanks

Hi @rckraus, we love to know you want to be part of DIRECTV's family. For sure, you can do it since you have a remote control with arrows to navigate. The speed of the channel switching will depend on the internet connection, but we can assure you it is a reliable service. You can also block the channels you don't use to watch and add your favorite ones to a Favorite List to switch fast through them, check more here https://www.directv.com/support/stream/article/KM1228386 If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. DIRECTV is here for you. Santiago, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Best way to do this is with a Gemini device. (Dtv Stream box)

Once again @DIRECTVhelp offers marginal to incorrect info.  Yes, you can "surf" channel to channel, and set the order to either be alphabetical by network name or numerical (matching the channel numbers they assigned to each network).  However, you cannot block channels, and while you can set up a favorites list, that only impacts the program guide - when you surf you will hit every channel, not just the favorites.

Thanks for the responses to my questions.

I may want to try DirecTV Stream but the packages are shown with two-year pricing. Is there a way to try it out without making a commitment?

I wouldn't do it!! I have had directv stream for about 2 years and nothing but problems. Box disconnects from network and internet, box resets itself, remote doesn't work correctly. I have to call them AT LEAST twice a month and be on the phone for about an hour to get help. I called them today and the only compensation they offered was TEN DOLLARS, that's a slap in the face. I just filed a complaint with the FCC. PLEASE BEWARE!!

I wouldn't go to to directv stream if I were you. I have had it for about 2 years and I have to call them AT LEAST 2 times a month. The network and internet disconnects on it's own, box resets itself, remote doesn't work correctly. I call them and they offered me 10 DOLLARS compensation. What a slap in the face! I just filed a complaint with the FCC. So BEWARE!!!

The Directv Stream box is slower than my Apple 4kTV.  On the stream box, the guide is slow to populate, whereas on the Apple TV everything is there.   On the stream box, certain channels have judder issues when switching to them, but on the Apple TV everything works smoothy.  So, I am saying that the comment above regarding internet speed is only a small part of the issue.  Unless future software updates fix these problems, I would suggest using Directv Stream with a 4k Apple TV unless you can't do without changing channels by numbers.   That's my humble opinion.

Can I flip from station to station? Do I need a special tv? Currently not all my tvs are smart tvs but I have a fire stick. What’s the pros and cons?
