DTV Satellite vs DTV Streaming Pros/Cons

I have DirecTV satellite now but am considering "cutting the cord" with the dish.  I like being able to turn on the TV and watch without having to search through a menu, which is the only reason I've stayed with satellite this long.  But now I feel it's getting too pricey, especially since they are apparently in a (Edited per community guidelines) contest with ABC, so I'm cheated out of watching anything on there.  Is there any advantage to switching to streaming?  Is it cheaper?  Is it better?  (I'm not into sports so the selling point of sports channels doesn't mean anything to me).  Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there. We're glad you're interested in our service. DIRECTV is a satellite service requiring a dish, whereas DIRECTV STREAM is an online subscription requiring high-speed internet service and a streaming device instead. Follow this link https://www.directv.com/ and you will find more information about Satellite and STREAM differences. DIRECTV is always here for you. 💙 Jessica, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Keep in mind that no provider is immune from disputes. If you switch, you'll actually be stuck in the same dispute.

DirecTV Stream has an optional box, which you can legally buy from sites like Ebay. This Android-based box has access to all sorts of apps AND can sets your DirecTV Stream lineup on channels, similar to what you already have.

Your other option is via another streaming device like a Roku, Chromecast or game system. This option doesn't include channel numbers.

The Nexstar situation applies to DIRECTV STREAM as well so switching will not fix it for you. And all TV providers go through those carriage negotiations so switching outside of the DirecTV (or AT&T) umbrella doesn't protect you as can (and does) happen with others.

Depends on your internet and preferences on which streaming device (vs the satellite boxes you are familiar with) on which way is ideal for you. With satellite if/when my internet goes out, my TV still works or vice versa. If both satellite and internet don't work, well that usually would mean bigger problems.
