Although the Directv Satellite does have EWTN it also has a problem when there is a storm that causes interference with the Satellite. Otherwise I would switch to it.
I believe EWTN is actually on DIRECTV satellite 101 location so it has a less chance of being affected. In other words, you are dealing with a KU-band signal rather than a KA-band signal which is both more affected by rain fade and carries all of the HD content.

You don't.
EWTN is a channel in all DirecTV (the satellite service) packages. But the other provider DIRECTV STREAM does not have the channel.

Pros and cons to every TV provider. DirecTV deals with weather. DIRECTV STREAM deals with your internet and household's data usage.
Regardless, between the two only DirecTV has the channel. If satellite is not for you then you will need to check other TV providers that have EWTN.

Most streaming services offer very limited (if any) religious channels.

Even thought DirecTV Stream doesn't carry the channel, you can download the EWTN app onto the DirecTV Stream box, Roku or Fire Stick.
