How do I block Pay per View and premium channels?

Here is one thing I found. The movies extra pack say it includes, among other things, Smithsonian Channel. According to the guide, that is NOT included with "Entertainment" which is what we have. But I can navigate to it (ch 570) and nothing comes up to say it's not included. There seem to be a lot of differences between the channel guide and what channels are actually available. My guess is that DirecTV has a LOT of software problems, that in a few cases will let a viewer choose a channel that triggers an upgrade. (PPV, of course, is a whole other matter.)

I would agree that DIRECTV STREAM needs more software updates than DirecTV at this point. Parental controls, specifically a spending limit or lockout on PPVs, would be a big improvement.

Agreed that this is basic security that should have been present before a pay per view/on demand function was released. There should be an option to require a PIN for anything that would incur an additional charge.  Only the actual account holder should be able to add anything that will increase the bill, not just anyone who happens to have access to a TV in the household.

I would imagine that you should be able to request that DirectTV reverses the charge, if they refuse then dispute the entire months' bill with your credit card company.

I don't disagree, but as a brand new customer, this might not be the time to alienate them. Presumably they have the power to cut me off and blacklist me. It might be bad publicity, but I'm not sure they care that much since they have little or no competition at this point.

Since ATT bought Direct TV they care more about $$$$ then then the needs of customers, We have DTV in our rental unit and sadly with no way to block extra channels we will have to go to another provider, Thx Jerry

If you have DirecTV (DTV) then you have options to block extra channels. They have parental controls for the satellite service. (channel blocks, spending limits, rating limits, viewing hours, etc.).

However if you have DIRECTV STREAM (streaming-only), then yes that one should have had those additional protections before they released PPV content.

Do you have DirecTV (satellite) or DIRECTV STREAM (streaming-only)? If it is the satellite service, you can absolutely block PPV ordering by the remote. Using favorites only hides the option, but they can still order and you would still be responsible.

If DIRECTV STREAM (streaming-only), don't provide that to renters. Let them get their own service. This is the DIRECTV STREAM (not satellite) forum.

@Juniper, that was a bit prickly (to Filky.) Ending a post with thx is a bit naive, but it just means "thanks for reading." Not everyone is as lucid as you.

Since they used the same type of phrase to thank another user, I read it in a consistent tone of thank themselves. Adding to that the ALL CAPS they used, it seemed to fit. I do see your point that they could have meant thanking others for reading their post, but with the other factors I doubt that was the case. It is more likely they were thanking themselves for posting a "solution".

I am considered that since it was for a rental unit, they don't have DIRECTV STREAM and instead have normal DirecTV (the satellite service). So not only is the advice a bandage (as doesn't lock out PPVs, just somewhat hides them), but deters those away from an actual PPV lock for the service they have.

But if they don't have DirecTV (satellite) instead in the place they are renting to people, why would they provide a streaming service that people can just start/stop as they choose without having to be installed on the place.
