What streaming device are you using?

Only the DirecTV Stream box and its remote support direct channel number entry.

Use a supported box and remote that have numbers like you would for any other service. If the devices don't have numbers, then scrolling is your option.

The service does offer a couple of facilities on all devices: you can both scroll from the program guide and "surf" to adjacent channels.  Also, the home screen offers the "What's on Now" tiles, which (generally) show the channels you've watched recently, and those can be selected directly.  But for directly selecting channels by number, you are limited to their own device, which is customized for the service.

For the apps---you can also hit the up button to bring up recent channels you have watched. If u want to change via numbers---get a Dtv Stream box. The remote has numbers for channel changing. The remote also has shortcut buttons for the guide, dvr list, record, previous channel, and voice search.

Thank you all for this good info. I'll figure it out from here. Learning a new system is always a hassle :-)
