Navigation suggestion for Apple TV app

On the Apple TV DirecTV app I have a few suggestions to make navigation easier.  I use the One For All backlit AppleTV Bluetooth remote.  If I push the guide button on it, it brings up the guide fine, but let’s say I change the channel to something else in the guide.  If I press guide again, I expect it to go to the guide but have the current channel highlighted so I can continue scrolling where I left off.  However it brings the guide up to the previous channel.  Like I was on 280 TLC, scrolled to 254 AMC and picked that.  Then hit guide and instead of being at 254 AMC where I’m tuned, it goes to 280 TLC.  That is NOT how the actual satellite receiver works.  Pressing guide should always start you on the channel that is currently playing!

Also another suggestion is with this specific remote, can you please enable the channel up and down buttons?  There’s an Apple API and you must be using it for the guide button.  If you use the remote app on iPhone, if this API is used, channel up/down and guide appear on the phones remote app as well.  There are other apps that use it and it makes channel surfing easy.

Last but not least, the rewind and fast forward buttons don’t do anything either.  Only play/pause.  And when paused the rewind and fast forward don’t even advance in the time bar.  Again this all can be added in via Apples API and if you don’t have this remote or one like it, the buttons appear and work great on the iPhone remote app.

thanks!

Thank you for sharing this feedback with us, @kjstech. You make some excellent points about how the guide should behave and how we can better support third-party remotes. We are sharing this directly with our team to help guide future app updates. To make your channel surfing a bit easier today, try pressing down on your remote controller during live playback. This opens a quick menu of your recently viewed channels, which might save you some scrolling time. Appreciate you helping us improve! Charles, DIRECTV Community Team
