New to DirectTVNow

hey guys- i've spent the past few days reading / researching how to cut the cord. I have been long time directv sat subscriber - over 20 years, with RSNs and Center Ice. I live in Chicago but watch NY Rangers on Center Ice and really enjoy pre and post games show on the MSG RSN. I currently pay $176/ month and i need to find something else. One question i have is how is your "location" determined on DTV Now? i read you can change your location. i also read you can but only 4 times per year. Then i also read that you can watch locals when you travel. Does that mean the locals of the new area you are traveling in - or watch your OWN locals even when away? If someone can educate me on the regions and how it works, i would appreciate it. I'm looking at the Entertainment Streaming package and then subscribing to ESPN+ for all the hockey games, but i really also want to watch pre/post game shows on MSG. Also, i have a sony bravia tv and it looks like the app is not available - i would have to get the ATT streaming box, which i've read good things about. Any tips/ info / advice would be so appreciated! thanks!!!

There is no longer a DTVNow it is now DTV streaming.  This is the sat forum.

It is Directv Stream and with the Directv Stream box when you are traveling your local channels will be based on your current location while streaming so it will not be the same local channels you have at home unless you are still in your local area.  You can change your home wifi location 4 times a year.  You can have 3 streams on the go 2 of which can be TVs so that makes it nice!  The streaming box is just like having the Sat. service or cable in how it operates so that makes it nice!

The brand DIRECTV NOW hasn't existed in a few years. It changed to AT&T TV NOW (or just AT&T TV) and is currently DIRECTV STREAM.

The app for both DirecTV and DIRECTV STREAM are being combined but are still separate providers. Regional Sport Networks (RSNs) are still location based so have restrictions with streaming.

As your questions are about how the streaming-only service works, what is now branded DIRECTV STREAM, moved to the correct forum.

The DIRECTV Stream box is nice and is very user friendly and will be very comparable to the Sat service you are used to you can buy the streaming box brand new for $120 out right or you can break that price over 2 years for $5 a month or you could buy a recertified refurbished box from DIRECTV for $49.99 and it comes with a 1 year warranty.  Now for your MSG cannel you would have to go to DIRECTV and go to streaming and channel lineup and then go to reginal sports/local and put in your Zip Code to see if you will get the MSG channel because that is based on your location!  Hope this helps you!
