Set Reminder

I've looked everywhere and it seems that I can't set a simple reminder for a TV show or sporting event on DirecTV stream. Am I missing something?

Nope, you're not missing anything. There is no way to set a "reminder" with DirecTV Stream equipment. Only the non-DVR DirecTV Satellite boxes have that feature. Their idea now is that you would just setup a recording.

Thanks! That's what I figured but i just didn't want to accept the stupidity of it all.

When you can record to watch on your own time, why bother with setting up a reminder of when a show comes on? That perception would be why DirecTV has only had Autotune on their non-DVR boxes with the satellite service. It is something not needed when you can record.

There is no stupidity about recordable boxes not having a reminder like Autotune. It is too niche a feature for a small amount of consumers so not worth it for DirecTV to have that on top of DVR.

I get it but I've previously been with Spectrum for literally years so it's taking me a minute to realize that DirecTV Stream is exactly what they say it is...a streaming service. At this point, I'm just writing myself notes to remind myself that whatever comes on at whatever time. I have never streamed live TV so this is new to me. I stream Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc. and never thought of setting a reminder because it's streaming😁 but streaming live TV is a different animal.

Though delivered from the internet, DIRECTV STREAM works with live channels. So it is closer to a traditional TV provider (moreso if you have their box which has a traditional remote unlike regular streaming boxes).

It does make it a unique animal. Streaming has mostly been pre-recorded content that you download on demand. Live TV through interent is a bit ongoing still as nationwide connections need drastic overhaul and improvement (not just max out small special areas). Guess both the companies and consumers are learning as we go on this.

I'm definitely learning as I go. The DirecTV tech did no explaining. ATT recently installed 5g fiber optic cable in our neighborhood. I'd been wanting to get rid of spectrum because of the high price. So in comes DirecTV Stream. I could get all the live TV and sports at a great price but the tech who installed it basically did nothing extra. It took me 2 weeks to figure out that somehow my TV had defaulted to 720p. I couldn't figure out why the picture looked so totally washed out. I accidentally noticed the setting today and set it on 1080p...what a difference! If you have any other tips, please share and thanks!

ATT recently installed 5g fiber optic cable in our neighborhood.

That would be 5Gbps if you lucked out and are in their highest area.

Just mentioning as 5G refers to 5th generation phone service. With companies starting to increase speeds in the Giga realm, this does get confusing.

My area had 1.5Mbps not too long ago. Improvements in the last few years made several jumps. But Gigabit is still a dream. Personally I think 300Mbps up and down is what we need accross the board as the minimum. That should be the focus, getting nationide internet to a good base standard and reaching more people. What's the point of developing the Ferrai when you've got all those bumpy dirt roads?

I totally agree. 300Mbps should be the minimum everywhere. I'm not sure what was actually installed in our neighborhood because we've been told so much conflicting info between ATT and DirecTV Stream that it's all meshed together at this point. But we were told that we have the best and fastest and when I do a test and measure my upload and download speeds, it clocks in at 500+. The only thing I've noticed as far as streaming is that, so far, there has been no pixilation and no spinning donuts and that's a good thingšŸ™‚

To fully use 5Gbps, you need devices capable of that speed (including your Ethernet cables). If you're seeing around 500Mbps consistantly, then I would check your bill. You should be paying no more than for 1Gbps at that point.

Though keep in mind, WiFi does not reach the speeds of wired as has a lower top cap.
