Sick and Tired of "Too Many Streams"
My IP Address changed. Now the system thinks I am not at home. Countless hours on the phone with "Support" getting the run around. Said they would call me back, never did. After research I find it is an ongoing problem with apparently no fix. We quite often watch 4 TV's. I have six boxes. I'm brand new to these folks and I would quit them except for the fact I have $720.00 wrapped up in "boxes". Anyone know of a fix for this short of paying a lot for a static IP address. Thanks.

So they did call back but no resolution. He talked about some kind of "special" outage that may be causing the problem. So through this whole ordeal we rebooted my modem twice but never my wireless router. The Direct TV Stream boxes are wireless. So here is what I did. I powered it all down for 10 minutes. Modem, router, and boxes for about 15 minutes. Kinda going off the grid. I powered the modem and router back up. I went to each box, powered it up, reset with the red button and shut it off with the remote. (Not a power down.) All six I did this to. Problem solved. I'm thinking that powering down the modem (WAN) without powering down the wireless router (LAN) was the problem after obtaining the Static IP. You guys may be saying DUH, but the thought never occurred to me the problem could be local. To me it was how their system was communicating through the WAN. Thanks for all of you help and suggestions. Now that I am static, hopefully this will never happen again. I know a bit about this stuff, but I am an old maintenance mechanic, not a techy. Thanks again for your help.

Unfortunately, the only fix to the issue is a static IP address. What ISP do you have?

If I get a static IP how do I get them to recognize that? And if there is a way for them to do that why can't they just recognize the one I have now?

According to the site they offer a static IP for $10/month: https://support.metronet.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043558513-What-is-a-static-IP-and-how-do-I-add-one-to-my-services-
Once you are hooked up with a static IP you should be good to go. The static IP is automatically logged by DIRECTV STREAM and the location will no longer change.

Just put in my request with Metronet. They say it should be active in 24 hours. I'll you all know how it works out.

Metronet was feeling kind of bad that they recommended something that did not work so they escalated my static IP request. I now have a static IP. Any idea how long this takes to catch up to Direct TV as I still have too many streams.

I think you will need to contact DirecTV to have them reset the IP address they think is your home address - I don't believe this will happen automatically.

These people stink so bad it is unbelievable! Their automated system has hung up on me 4 times. When you click on their chat icon it does not work. I can't even call them to cancel this crap. I am so tired of this run around and there is absolutely nothing I can do. Do any of you folks have any great ideas for this problem. I have a static IP and all of my TV's say I am not at my home location. So much for that being "automatic" It's the roaring silence from

who headed me down this static IP road. Plain old stuck here. . Not a thing I can do and I am paying my hard earned money for this. Big business wins against the little guy again and again.

They seem to be having issues with their phone lines this morning. Keep trying.

Seeing several posts about phone/transfer problems this morning. Just unfortunate timing for technical issues. After you get through and can get the stream location reset, let us know if that worked with the static IP you now have.

So now we have all 6 TV's connected but three still say too many streams. Been on the phone with "technical support" for one hour and twenty two minutes and still going.

Sounds like currently that static IP is identified as an out of home location, thus granting you only three locations. Hopefully the DIRECTV STREAM support can resolve the issue promptly.

On the phone for an hour and forty two minutes. Net, net same result. You get no more than three streams. So they tell me they will call me back in two hours. Last time they said they would call me back they didn't. I expect the same result. Not only that they don't have ticket numbers. So I'm thinking when I have to call back I'll have to go through the same song and dance. And trust me, if they do get this resolved I'll report that as well. I easily have 10 hours spent on this. Once again, customer service is an oxymoron.
