Starlink WiFi and DirectTV Stream

We have Starlink for our wifi service. We recently started getting an error message that says "Your network conditions may be degrading your video stream" We have tried with a Fire TV stick, the DirectTV app and directly from signing into the internet. We have tried on 3 different devices. The Starlink service is working perfectly and is very fast. We have been able to stream DirectTV with Starlink this last summer and fall. We can switch to our much slower TMobile hotspot and get the DirectTV stream to work. Any advice?

I should have mentioned that along with the error message, it won't stream.

Hi @llkona we are here to help you.

We understand that the error message is reflecting that your DIRECTV STREAM service is affecting your Starlink service, is that correct? Or please confirm what is the specific error you are getting with DIRECTV STREAM.

We will be here for you.

No, the DirectTV Stream won't work with our Starlink internet. The error message is "Your network conditions may be degrading your video stream". It is not an internet problem, everything else works on our Starlink internet.

Just a note, you have Starlink for your internet service, not Wi-Fi.

Wifi is just a wireless option. You can have your computer or phone connect to a printer by WiFi without having any internet (if both devices have WiFi of course).

Starlink is internet by satellite. Satellite internet is not ideal for streaming because of bandwidth limitations plus they tend to be metered/data capped. That means eating up your data allowance rather quickly. This is the same caution for mobile internet. Even if you have unlimited data, depends on what the threshold before they throttle you or reduce priority compared to other users.

While Starlink has no data cap and usually provides very fast download speeds, it does have an issue common to all satellite internet services ..... latency. Because the satellites are very high in the sky it takes a bit of time for the data to be sent from your home (via ground stations) and back to you (from the satellites). This latency can interfere with some streaming services. So, while just a guess, I suspect that DirecTV Stream doesn't like seeing those delays.

YES IT WILL.    Follow the instruction on your DIRECTV menu.   It was a pain in the rear but it worked.  Press an hold button with pen or tooth pick for 10 seconds because you have a new router.  Hit continue and then it will show you what it found.  Tag your starlink and hit continue.   Put in your password.  Hit continue.  I don't know what the others did but mine works.
