The BANNER ADS that keep on irritating us! Yet we PAY !
One would maybe think, for $90 a month they could not advertise their own company to us!
we've all seen them, you pause your tv to get up, and in 10 seconds, the INVASION comes, like the body snatchers! And little green men. 🤢🤢🤢
sometimes it's only semi irritating. But most of the time it is beyond obnoxious irritating. Like having a screaming toddler tugging at your pants in the middle of a crowded store while you're trying to talk on your phone. It is super irritating.
DIRECTV I would like a response to this. This is abominable. And I PAY YOU.
please respond. I only keep the service because my dying husband thinks he needs 800 annoying channels. Plus sports. When he dies, I will be gone. HULU HERE I COME!!! 💃 💃 🕺🏼
And why can't I respond to others posts? Why do I have to earn one million badges to be able to participate here. What a really (Edited per community guidelines)ty forum this is. We watch tv to relax! NO DTV ADS!
Take $30 a month off my bill, then go ahead and run your disgusting mostly sports, ADS!

Hello, Rondam.
We are here to assist you. This is not the experience we want you to have with our services.
Please, could you share with me if you are getting an error code? Since when are you experiencing this?
We'll be glad to help you.

Most of us would prefer not to have adds at all (provider specific or not). However, it is the nature of the beast of any pay TV provider. We don't pay to avoid commercials. And using the pause screen is the decision and right of the business.
This is a public forum, not customer support. Though you've received a response from the official help team, they are only supplemental to regular support and neither of those groups make the decisions on the advertisements.
You do not get money taken off your bill for advertisements. Just not how that works. However, if you can sort out what channels your husband actually watches then you likely would be able to go to a lower tier package that is a better fit.
As for unable to respond to other posts, that would expect to be a technical issue of some sort. For once you've created an forum account, you can respond to any open thread as you choose. What happens when you try to respond to an existing thread? And what thread are you unable to respond to?

Hi Juniper,
I think it's more about the presentation of this ad that makes it more bothersome, and actually hurts my eyes.
I saw that a brand new subscriber posted about his shock at seeing this when he pressed his pause screen! He was dumbfounded, as is expected.
It irritates some more than others, it doesn't have to be presented like a giant rolling moving brightly lit banner screen on top of a tall building in New York. Nor should it come into play at all when we are watching DVR. We pay more to have DVR.
Maybe not money off, but for $90 a month, I shouldn't have to see this. That's what I'm saying, the price vs the quality of the product!
Many streaming services, including HBOMAX are now offering "some ads" with a discount subscription. And those that do not want the ads, pay full price.
I would ditch DTV if any of the other decent services came with a remote. Like Hulu, U-tube.
When I ask DTV about this, they pretend to not know what I'm taking about. We see ads on many channels anyway, that we watch, those are expected. I accept some ads as part of life. This is not that.
This is not just an ad, it's a tsunami of lights and movement that takes over your 55" or whatever TV Screen. For someone over 60, with eye sensitivities, it is actually painful.
Thanks for commenting.

DTV, your response has nothing to do with my question.
this is not an error. It's a virus that you include with our service. The banner ads!
And, as usual, DTV pretends not to know what I'm talking about !!
Thats what always happens. You know exactly what I'm talking about!
if only there was a setting, where we could dismiss this tsunami of lights and movement permanently.

As you find the DirecTV specific advertisements overdone, and certainly painful by default, then I would file a BBB complaint. That sends your concern to the corporate level, as neither the forum help team or customer support have nothing to do with the decisions on how the service is delivered.
Pause screen adds are intended by the business so not a virus. However, though they are meant to be a bit of an attention grabber, they shouldn't cross the line into painful territory.
The response you got asking if there was an "error", I don't believe that was in regards to the advertisement but about your unable to post to other threads. Not the main point of your post, but it was the part they could try and help with.

Juniper,
im not gonna do the BBB fight. No time or energy.
I will complain often though, to keep it on their radar.
I realize the forum is basically useless.
I am also aware that if enough ppl complain, or stop their service, THAT will get their attention.
A BBB fight, would be a loser venture. They would win. I would lose. I will wait, this stuff will change.

Submit complaint to BBB on their website shouldn't take much time. Certainly less than complaining "often" on non-official venues. And normally results in someone from corporate contacting you. Shouldn't be much energy just so your voice is heard where it will matter for this particular topic.
Forum is not useless, just not what you want. This is a public place for other customers to help each other out. For official help you call, or if something that is beyond regular customer care then you know the method to raise the issue to corporate.
Waiting is not a guarantee of change. I would say either take the effort to actually encourage change or leave and go with another provider that you like better.
