Watch local channels to another city with a VPN

Can I use a VPN to connect to another US city other than home to watch local channels on my DTV Stream app?

DIRECTV Stream viewing location depends on the billing address registered on file. If you want to access local channels from another zip code, you would need to change the billing zip code on file. Yes, you can use a VPN to connect to a different US city and watch local channels on your DTV Stream app. I did something similar recently. I wanted to catch a local news broadcast from a different city, so I set up a VPN to that location. It worked pretty well!

What you may be technically able to do and what is permitted or could violate your Terms of Service, resulting in consequences up to and including termination of service, is a key distinction. As pointed above, a big reason is advertisers on local channels are paying to reach those in their Designated Market Area (DMA), not some other part of the country.

In any case, this was explained a year ago when this thread ended. Best not to dig up old threads and instead start your own if you cannot find a recent relevant one that will help you.
