What happened to the Music Choice Channels?
Hello,
We awoke this morning to find out the our Music Choice Channels were replaced with Sting ray! What's up with that? Also, what the heck is U-verse Elite? When I was check Sting Ray, it told me I need U-verse Elite to continue. I hit okay and it downloaded the channels ... Is this adding cost to U-verse 300 programming? If so, how do I change it?
Thank to all who answer!

Hi @ccpolston - U-Verse announced through media outlets (they usually take an ad out in USA Today). Unfortunately they usually don't broadcvast it to everyone.
Yes it does blow that AT&T changed from Music Choice, the best in the business to something obviously much cheaper. The channels are just dreadful. An AT&T manager said that "Music Choice was good but Stingray was great." Yeah, right. Lots of dreadful cover songs, deep tracks and such. I found a press release from Stingray that said "we don't put much money ionto it" and it shows.
To really let a manager at AT&T know, I suggest that everyone send a private message to the escalation team at AT&T Customer Care, and someone will get in touch with you.

Bookmark that page and check it on the third Tuesday of every month. That will tell you all the channels that may be pulled by their owners/operators if negotiations fail. Please note that a channel appearing there may not necessarily mean that it *will* be pulled. It just means that the channel *could* be pulled. About 90% of the time, a channel appears on the list and all continues as normal.
You may also want to consider a streaming service like Pandora or SiriusXM's Internet Radio. Both are customizable.

This change to Stingray is obviously not meant to make life easier for the consumer. So ATT must be doing this to serve themselves. So what exactly are we paying $200+/month for? . . . so, we can get annoyed when we want to listen to music that we've always enjoyed. It takes forever to get to the music now (with the little icon spinning around while it finds itself) and the music itself is not nearly as pleasant as it was. So WHAT'S WITH THAT? And why didn't we get a message telling us you were doing this? So much for pleasing the consumer!

Do you have silver AT&T boxes or black ones? If you have silver boxes made by Motorola (VIP series 1200, 1215 or 1225), you may want to consider calling AT&T and having them mail you black wireless boxes or black hard-wired boxes. The newer black boxes have more "guts" and "power" than the older, obsolete silver ones. Unfortunately, if you swap out your 1215 or 1225, you'll lose all recordings. What I did was connect my 1225 to a Slingbox and was able to get two wireless STBs for my two TVs. This way, I can access my recordings via boxes that are much faster than the old silver boxes while not losing any recordings.
They may want to charge you a $49 "upgrade fee." I was able to get them to give me a $49 credit as it is my personal opinion that when a company does things to make their equipment obsolete, the customer(s) shouldn't have to pay for newer equipment. I also hooked them up myself without the need of any technicians. This may be one of those YMMV situations.
Anyway, once you get the new wireless (or wired) boxes, just put the old ones in the same box, put the included return label on it and take it to any UPS store.
Now...if you don't want wireless boxes, I don't think there's any upgrade fee there. Once again, YMMV.

Yes, thanks for giving the advice of sending a message to the escalation e-mail. I turned on my TV this morning only to realize that the music had changed. What a horrible option, AT&T! Shame on you! You pride yourself on being better than Comcast and being so customer service-oriented and then you have the nerve to just up and switch the music selection we are paying premium prices for AND without notice!! I don't even recognize any of the artists or songs on the so called "Hits" option and the Adult Pop sounds like elevator music! I plan and escalating my complaint as high as it can go. Everyone out there who feels like they are being ripped off by AT&T should do the same. Thank God I signed up for Pandora last month. Maybe I should just dump AT&T all together, like many others are doing and going to the option of streaming what they really want and not paying for crap that they don't want like Stingray!! Thanks alot AT&T!!

They need to find a way to get music channels for people who don't have Elite or higher internet service pronto or they'll be chasing customers away.

Do you have channel 531 and/or 1531? Then you should have music on the app, don't you?

Honestly, Elite is the second-lowest tier. I'd bet the vast majority of subscribers have Elite or higher. If you were to call to upgrade, I'd bet they'd lower your overall price for a while. When your price goes up at the end of the term, call back.
