Hello: This is to a DTV rep. If I ever purchase my own device, (Gemini Air) would DTV connect it without a problem?

I encountered another issue today with the Gemini Air device. This is the second time, in three months in which I need a new device. I am really growing tired of this! I have DirectTV Stream on my Samsung TV. I'm using the Samsung remote but I've seen comments that the DirectTV Gemini devices are better. I thought that you had to pay $15.99 for the first Gemini and $7 for additional per month which can add up. Is this correct?
