DIRECTV dropping OANN?
How could you bow down to the WOK cancel culture demands to dropping OANN? They do not lie! The "big lie of the 2020 election" is absolutely true. There is mountains of evidence of the election steal. All the misinformation comes from liberals not conservatives! My husband and I will be dropping Directv if you go thru this in April. I will convince all our friends and family to do likewise. This is an attack on freedom of speech and our country. Shame on you!!!!

management doesnt see it because its a customer populated forum, bots censor certain words, *including words that are considered political as political discussion are forbidden in the forums
While AT&T employees do look at forum posts from time to time, we are here to represent the forum with our experiences as customers and do not represent AT&T in any official capacity with our responses and do so on our own time unpaid and off the clock. As employees we are not rewarded nor compensated to participate in these forums This forum is comprised of regular customers to communicate with other customers to offer advice and share experiences same as any other user Although there is a small team of customer care specialists that monitor the forums the sheer volume of posts are simply too many posts for these agents to respond to each one of them.

The forum bots or moderators are not AT&T management. This is intended as a customer to customer forum, not a replacement for official channels in contacting AT&T. We have our user names, not actual names or account info. Calling for official support is still the norm.

It got abused. Too many consumers took this to mean they were entitled to everything and try and bully employees to get what they want. And upper management at a lot of places would punish their employees both for not following policy/rules but also for not caving to customer demands (even if they weren't reasonable).
When it comes to style preference, we cannot be told differently. But that doesn't mean the company must carry it. They may try to accommodate, even if not necessarily the company's fault but in the end the business must make the decision they feel is better for them.

It was politics that motivated DirecTV to drop OANN from its lineup to begin with. I can see Newsmax heading to the chopping block next. I'm not so sure about Fox but if those in Congress get their way...

DIRECTV CENSORED OAN. The facts are all over this thread and posted by many. There are not enough words to twist and cover up what happened.
Constructive is 100% right. The board members and executives who made the decision do not read forums or notes (if they even are documented) for why people are canceling. The only thing that will cause executives at the top to react is a meaningful drop in revenue or when they face the wrath of a new red congress 2022.
Vote with your wallet and not words. DIRECTV canceled OAN effective April and there is nothing any of us can do about it other than make fellow patriots aware of the truth and decide who we want to give our hard earned money to.

And it’s not as simple as “OAN will still exist” as one employee continues to say in this forum. The decision will be a major financial blow to OAN and could impact the quality of the news many of us depend on.
DIRECTV is currently the largest distributor of OAN and contributes to 90% of OAN revenue.

Yes, Newsmax will likely be next.

Google ‘Newsmax Cancel’ if they censor the link above.

DirecTV either pays to support OANN or discontinues the business relationship. That is not censorship, otherwise every single channel DirecTV doesn't carry is "censored" according to that view. Regardless of the reason for the parting of ways, even if "political", it is not censorship.
By "employee", I assume you mean @Constructive as that is the only employee tag I have seen. Well, OANN does have other providers it is on. However, if DirecTV no longer paying them causes them to go out of business, then that network was too dependent on that provider to begin with. Other networks that might cease an agreement with a provider don't go out of business as they are still with others. Is OANN so weak that it cannot survive without DirecTV backing them?

I said nothing that came from another news channel. That was my perspective on censoring, pure and simple. And I do not use Twitter or Facebook. As for YouTube, I use it sparingly for some things, but certainly not as a news source.
Shouting more about "left wing" still doesn't mean I have said anything about it. That is something you are hung up on. I feel one could slap a "left wing" label on something and you would grab the torches and pitchforks and accost any passerby to preach your fears. Yes, an exaggeration, but it does seem you fly off the handle and make baseless claims or assumptions about others when something doesn't go your way, or someone doesn't agree with your exact point of view.
Well as DirecTV doesn't want to support OANN, so not paying to continue carrying them, how would you say they do so without you considering it "censoring"? Forcing them to pay and carry them would just violate their freedom of choice. So, what would be the alternative? Or would you only be satisfied if they kept something they don't want to support as their rights and choices only matter if it is in your favor?

Juniper,
Its censoring given what has been well documented on the matter. Read up on it… many have posted links and quotes on the matter in this forum If it was a legit business decision, people would not be anywhere near as upset.
No one shouted left wing, it was stated as a fact. E.G. left wing news leaves out part of the story or provides false information to support political purposes.

I'm in agreement with you on the censorship of truth. I'm giving away my age by saying I remember when Walter Cronkite or the Huntley, Brinkley Report came on there was no question that the news was being reported.
Now it seems every one of the "news" broadcasts is an opinion show and as you scan the guide you already know what the opinion is.
These two members of Congress that I spoke about earlier, Eshoo and McNerney, even use left-wing opinion shows to substantiate their claims.
I urge every truth-loving reader to go to Representative Anna G. Eshoo's official site at:
eshoo.house.gov
There you can read the full statement and the "letter" that brought DirecTV to its knees.

I happen to agree with you: DTV should never be forced to carry something they don't want. And I suspect everyone here agrees with you about that.
Have you ever heard an argument where both parties are right? That is the case here. While DTV is completely within their perview to drop anyone they want, there is in fact collusion between government and private industry taking place. This is true in big tech (which I work for as an engineer) and media.
Do you agree? If you don't, you haven't been paying attention. This is what has people riled up.
The upcoming election will hopefully right the ship, or there will be (Edited per community guidelines) to pay... in the meantime, we will form parallel economies. DTV and ATT be darned.

Press release from the desk of Anna G. Eshoo.
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Reps. Anna G. Eshoo (CA-18) and Jerry McNerney (CA-09), senior members of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, sent a letter today to 12 cable, satellite, and streaming TV companies urging them to combat the spread of misinformation and requesting more information about their actions to address misinformation, disinformation, conspiracy theories, and lies spread through channels they host.
“Nearly half of Americans get their news primarily from TV. However, not all TV news sources are the same. Some purported news outlets have long been misinformation rumor mills and conspiracy theory hotbeds that produce content that leads to real harm,” wrote the members. “Misinformation on TV has led to our current polluted information environment that radicalizes individuals to commit seditious acts and rejects public health best practices, among other issues in our public discourse.”
This letter comes ahead of Wednesday’s House Energy and Commerce Communications and Technology Subcommittee hearing on traditional media’s role in promoting disinformation and extremism.
Companies receiving letters include AT&T, Verizon, Roku, Amazon, Apple, Comcast, Charter, Dish, Cox, Altice, Alphabet, and Hulu.

Thank you for you post and illuminating the truth in relation to the subject of this forum. I have fond memories of Walter Cronkite news as well as there was no question in my mind that I was getting the facts and not someone’s biased opinion. Today it’s much harder to decipher the truth as unfortunately one needs to review news from multiple outlets and stitch together the snippets of facts which were used to formulate the disparate opinions to get to ground truth. This is the very reason why it’s extremely dangerous for the People to support government influence over Big Tech which is leading to the broadcast of only those opinions which support a particular party line.
Its sad to see representatives from California continuing to impose their will on the rest of the country…. Hopefully One day California will split (we’ve seen the signs) and it will become a less dominate factor in the state of the union.
