Why is DirecTV still broadcasting Russian Television (RT on Channel 321)?
Now that Russia has invaded Ukraine (similar to the Anschluss of 1938), why is DirecTV still broadcasting Russian Television on their service? Does DirecTV and ATT support Russia and a dictatorship over the freedoms of a fledgling democracy such as Ukraine? I implore DirecTV and ATT to immediately take Russian Television (RT on Channel 321) off DirecTV broadcast immediately!

Of course Directv has language in it's contracts to protect it's brand. If subscribers like me(16 yrs.) begin dropping their service because of RT tv and I'm thinking about it. They will suspend the channel, they don't have to go out business just to keep RT tv on the air. Also they're multi-billion dollar corporation. If they actually did have to take hit, it would be a few million dollars. In no way would they have raise subscribers costs because of it. That is good old fear mongering and pathetic!!!

Would be nice to know when that agreement comes up. Perhaps it is close enough that it would be easier to wait for that time then dealing with the process and penalty for doing it early. We can only speculate.

Juniper, why are you focused on this contract not being broken? What is your motivation to be sypathetic to RT? What is your motivation to keep RT on the air in the US which is just spreading lies about Putins war?

Wait a sec. The only time I've ever seen RT is if I happen to catch the Dennis Miller Show in the guide and I click to see who he's interviewing. He's not Russian propaganda as far as I know. So just now I tuned in the channel (it's still on) and it's a show about the economy. I looked through the guide and it looks like a list of boring talk shows. So where's the Russian propaganda? Am I missing something? What is everyone on here so upset about? And while we're on it, we can't just demand something be taken off the air just because we may not like it. If you don't like something don't watch it! But demanding something we don't agree with be removed is a slippery slope we need to be very careful of. I hate MSNBC so I don't watch it. I would never say it needs to be banned. I'll let the free market take care of that.
edit: Whoa, just this second while I still had it tuned in, it went away. "This channel is no longer available" is on the screen. Well, I guess that will make a lot of you happy. I wish I knew what specific program on there you were so offended by. Was there something like Prava Today? I didn't see that.
So what are you going to go after next?

@Rmar
Nowhere did I say I was sympathetic to RT or indicate. Just mentioning that TV providers still have to work within their carriage agreements. And depends on if it is better to wait if agreement is coming up. That is just reasonable speculation. If DirecTV verified they are dropping RT than all well in good.
Respecting how a contract may work is not sympathy. Keep it to what I've said and not invent something else.

To Semmy. I like Dennis Miller too. But since the war started the guide as it pertains to RT hasn't always been correct. I turned it on early this morning and it wasn't the program it listed. It was supposed to Boom or Bust, but was a (Edited per community guidelines) documentary on why Russia had to go into Donetsk 8 years ago, it was complete garbage. I'm for suspending, not canceling. No American corporation should be the (Edited per community guidelines) arm of another country in the middle of an illegal war. I'm not for the feds telling them to take it down, I'm for an American corporation doing the right thing.

I guess this just happened today? My DTV guide says "Channel Not Available". I never even knew it was there. Glad they took it down, contract or not.

Okay, Suze. Glad you posted. So you say you're "Glad they took it down..." but yet you "never even knew it was there". So why are you glad? What do you assume was on there that was so upsetting? I'm not being confrontational. I'm still looking for what was being broadcast on that station that warranted it being removed from the platform. From what I saw of the lineup it looked like a lot of infomercial-type talk shows. I remember they used to show those Larry King prostate medicine discussions all the time. But I would really like hear from Suze why she's glad it's off. I'm sincerely curious. We're you under the impression the programming emanated from Moscow and was trumpeting Putin's accomplishments 24/7? I honestly don't recall Dennis Miller having commercial bumpers of shots of Red Square.
I just don't like the suppression of opinions, no matter what the angle. I'm a very big proponent of "if you don't like it, don't watch. But don't take the option away from other people".

@Semmy why are you coming after me? I just found this thread today, read through it & made a post. Based on what others have said here, I'm glad they took it off/suspended it, whatever! I don't know the content since I never knew it was on but I agree with the others who were calling for DirecTV to remove it from their lineup.

Suze, I'm not "coming after" you. Not my intention. I'm just curious why you wrote what you did. You're doubling down now on not being informed about the channel yet now glad it's gone. I find that that kinda troubling. Not about you specifically but just in general how people's mindsets are today. Too much mob mentality. I still don't see any good reason for pulling the channel off the platform.
Weeze, yes I did see your post. But when I turned the channel on and managed to catch what was on before they yanked it, it was a couple of people talking about the economy and stocks... pretty sure it was that Boom or Bust show. As far as I know the channel was NOT 24/7 Russian or pro-Putin hype. It looked like infomercials!
Okay.... this topic is obviously too emotional and I'm probably digging myself into a hole here. So I yield. Congratulations to you all on having the channel removed. Celebrate today and start planning your next target. I guess we know what that will be. Well, probably Newsmax first. Can't allow that one now, can we? That's a smaller fish... should be easy.

@Semmy I'm just in agreement with the others in this thread. I hope they don't pull Newsmax off DTV but if they do I won't know, as I am terminating my service soon due to the non-renewal of their contract with OAN.

Everything I watched this morning was before 8:00 AM, so I can't speak to anything after. But as I said before it wasn't what was listed in the guide, it was a documentary about why Russia felt it hade to go into Donetsk. It was full of misinformation. Then the guide was right for the next show which was a 30 minute current news show. Then the guide was wrong again for the next show and it was the same documentary as earlier. I've watched RT here or there for a couple years, some decent programming, but this documentary was just wrong, especially as innocent civilians are being murdered. I worked with Directv for 15 years, they most definitely have provisions to suspend programming and exercised those today.
