30 day cancellation policy

So I called and trying to get my monthly bill lowered and the person opted to change my TV package to a lower one as they said we weren’t using all of our channels. I specifically asked they said this will not impact the fact that I no longer had a contract with AT&T and I was month to month. Turns out that that person was wrong and a dead illuminate channels that I told them we absolutely need it. So I called in and they changed it back and apparently put me into a contract that they did not tell me about or I would not of done it. This was eight days ago and now they’re telling me that I have to pay an early termination fee?! Is there not a 30 day guarantee on contracts?

Changing the package doesn't start or extend the contract and is the only way to lower the bill or removing TVs and DTV only has a 24 hour period after the install to cancel without the ETF/ECF.

Changing the package never extends the service agreement. You can change the package at any time. And whatever changes you make on DirecTV service has no affect on the agreement of other AT&T services (internet, phone, etc.) as they are different service providers even though the same parent owner.

DirecTV agents cannot see what channels you use. They can only recommend a package based on the channels you tell them that are important to you.

Only specific things affect the agreement.

Upgrade of equipment (which includes adding a TV) comes with a 24 month agreement.

Movers order comes with a 12 month agreement (if without upgrade, otherwise 24 months as normal)

Some 12 or 24 month discounts come with an agreement for the same time.

Suspending service freezes the agreement, as only active days count towards it, and will continue counting down once active again.

Contracts have no such "guarantee" of 30 days. The only grace period is upon your original install you have 24 hours before the service agreement is secure. Anything that renews/extends it later has no grace period at all. However if an agreement was updated in error, then you would need to call DirecTV to discuss it.
