30 day risk free trial? Or scam?

Recently one of your employees came into my place of business to sell me on cable, phone and internet. We already had Comcast but we were interested in possibly changing our current provider, so we listened to his pitch, which was quite intriguing because we decided to move forward. However, we decided to move forward with cable & internet only (no phone).

He said he would have someone out to set it up within a week and told us that we had a 30-day risk-free trial and could cancel at any time within the first 30 days.

We waited for an installation date but there was a long delay, 3 weeks go by, he finally sent someone out to do the installation but with no appointment or even calling to let us know your team was coming. They just showed up! Once there, they only installed cable and said that they would have to come back to finish the installation for the internet within the next day. We wait, day 5 (now only 5 days with cable)frustrated, we decide we don’t want to move forward with Directv’s services for our business.

We call the customer service line, and we explain to your reps in the call center what happened and how the installation hasn’t been completed and we want to cancel within our 30 day window, he canceled us, but with a $400+ cancellation fee (it was a bit more, don’t have the full number handy) Informing us that the 30-day risk free trial is only for before activation of services? How is that possible? How could we try a service without activating it? So the policy is, sign up for your services but don’t have it installed or used for 30 days and then I can cancel? That is a huge scam and completely wrong to do to any of your customers. How could we possibly see if the cable and internet will work out? What if this were you?

We need to have this rectified. ASAP.

First - we signed no contract.
Second - the services promised were ever installed
Third - the cable did not work out in our location

We need to have our account cleared of any further charges including the cancellation fee that is trying to be assessed. We already paid a monthly $73 dollars for a service we didn’t even use.

Below you will find:

Name and phone number of your rep -

Please let me know if there is any further information you need from me.

That wasn't a DTV employee as DTV doesn't use outside sales persons(door to door). You only had 24 hrs to cancel after the install as stated in the email DTV sent before the install and confirmed when you signed the work order stating you where satisfied with the work and agreed to the terms and conditions.

That was not a DirecTV employee but a 3rd party reseller. They send new orders to other companies. Too many of these door-to-door agents will say anything to get the sale.

There is no 30 day window for DirecTV itself as they only have 24 hours before the service and agreement is secure. As for AT&T services, they have a different grace period.

Order confirmation that DirecTV emails you upon receiving the order would show 24 month agreement that all customers start with, including length of promotions, level of equipment, etc. You claim to not have signed a contract, but the tech requires someone to sign off that install and order (which includes service agreement) are correct and to satisfaction. The early cancellation fee is worth $20 for each month remaining (max $480 for 24 months).

This is a customer to customer forum so we cannot look into this for you. Call DirecTV back and get the contact info for the 3rd party dealer that original sales agent works for. They are the ones you must dispute this with.

I didn't sign an email? Show me an email I signed - with my name?

Additionally, I canceled within 5 days of the 30-day trial, that alone would allow me out of any alleged contract. [Per Guidelines:  Keep it Relevant and Appropriate]., I see 100's of other posts, you're running a scam at the expense of potential customers. Terrible business, illegal and unethical.

That is the problem he went to my business when it was open but I was not there and did the install, it was not signed off on. I did not sign a single thing.

Never said you signed an email. You, or someone on your behalf on site, should have signed off on the install with the tech. Again, doesn't matter 30 days or 5 days. DirecTV has always been 24 hours.

Bottom line the 3rd party door-to-door person scammed you. You must take it up with the 3rd party retailer they work for.

Then someone at your business signed off on your behalf without reading what they were signing. Tech is not allowed to do all the work and not have someone sign off that the work order was completed.

Because of situations like this I really wish DirecTV and all those other companies would either quit using 3rd party retailers all together or imposing stricter fines or such if something like this happens. DirecTV is a very good service, provided you are properly informed on everything at the start.
