Account of deceased father

My father passed away last August and the Directv account is in his name only.  We still want the account but need to know how to transfer it to his wife and daughter's name.  Please advise.

Usually it can be transferred to his wife but not his daughter. This is because of legal/credit restrictions.

You cannot transfer to both the wife and daughter's name. Only the surviving spouse may choose to take over the account. To do so she must call DirecTV. Be prepared they may require her to provide a State Certified Death Certificate to a AT&T owned (corporate) store. Once accepted, any time left on a service agreement remains valid.

As a note, any time you call on the account prepare for that the agent will likely discuss equipment upgrade options. If it has been a good while since your father did anything with the equipment this would be a good time to review. However, I would compare in the forum first by posting your box model numbers. That way you are ready in case you get an agent who goes overboard on options (or even if it might be best to keep it the way it already is).
