ATT&T Software Update for my DirectTV Account
I have been a DirectTV customer for maybe 20 years. I just received a call from AT&T telling me I need to update my software at a personal cost of $200 which I have to pay by credit card.
Supposedly, this will be refunded in 4 months.
Why would I do this??? Software updates should be a part of my current subscription.
Why woudn't I term my long-time and supposedly profitable account for Dish Network who seems to want my business???

That call was not from Directv or ATT. It was a scam. Software updates are free, always have been.

Thanks. That was my immediate thought. Unfortunately, the caller knew information about me. First...that I am a DirectTV customer. Then my name and zip code. Very curious. Would seem ATT&T has a problem with its database.

Nope, that info is available to anyone that wants to buy it from the dark web.

I hope they paid a lot for it. Scary stuff... Thanks.

Name and zip code is usually public information. As for being a DirecTV customer, well if you spam/robocall hundreds/thousands, then some of them are bound to be a customer of DirecTV. So they social engineer you into thinking they have your info.

It doesn't just sound like a scam, it IS one.
Lots of people report the same one. I have had ELEVEN of these calls in the last four weeks.

I am also having this issue. There's a 'refresh' marker circling/cycling behind the "Restart Receiver" message. hellodear.in

I've been getting those calls too. I almost fell for the scam, but I called ATT to verify. I also submitted a complaint with the FTC.
I block all the calls now but I noticed the calls are spooling my area code. The next time someone calls, I'm going to tell them I know it's a scam and I'm blocking all their calls to take me off their list

Won't help. They just change the number they are spoofing.

This post concerns a scam and has nothing to do with a refresh marker. Please start your own separate thread, telling us what equipment ias showing this issue.

@hudabeauty
Umm your "this issue" has nothing to do with this thread. This is about scam/spoofed calls. You are talking about a technical issue with "Restart Receiver" that have nothing to do with each other.
In the future read a thread before posting to see if it is relevant (or even current as there are some out there that are years out of date). So in this case you will need to start your own thread.

@zackwilliams
Yes that post from a couple months ago does seem to be a fake post with a scam link and has been reported.
