being triple taxed based on state tax rate
Before responding, please note that I do not hold ATT/DirecTV accountable for Connecticut's tax rates. I understand that the rates are set by the state of Connecticut and I am not disputing tax rates here.
Connecticut (CT) has a 6.35% sales tax rate and a 5% “gross receipts” rate on video. I am not disputing this. I have historically always been charged these percentages on my bills.
This month I have been charged a 16.69% “CT state sales tax” rate and a 13.14% “CT gross receipts – video” rate. This has added $36 to my bill.
I called ATT/DirecTV billing and was told there is nothing they can do about it – I need to call my state government about my tax rates. This is not a solution to my problem. Although I do not like my state’s tax rates, in this case I am not discussing the rates that are set. I am trying to figure out why ATT/DirecTV is taxing me higher than my state calls for.
If I cannot be provided a solution to this I will be forced to both cancel DirecTV and probably look into a tax fraud investigation.

Do you have the NFL Sunday ticket?

Yes. And doing some research it appears as though the increased tax rate is on Sunday Ticket alone. Although I do not understand how Sunday Ticket can be taxed at a 38% sales tax rate and a 30% gross receipts rate if those aren't the state rates.

They're taxing the whole Sunday ticket subscription now at once instead of taxing the installments like it used to be. It's the new billing system doing this.

Oh and the csrs don't seem to be aware of this so they tell the customer to contact their state/county/city etc..

The amount does make sense for the whole package. I'm not really upset they did it that way...I just find it kind of nuts that (1) it's not written out on the bill and (2) none of the multiple employees had any idea when I spoke with them on the phone.
Unfortunately I'm not raking in enough $ to not notice what appears to be a 50% increase in my tv bill and my taxes are already high enough in Connecticut that I'm hyper aware of exactly what they are and when they go up.
I will mark this problem as solved for now; barring of course the tax isn't there again next month!

The NFL Sunday Ticket should be where the increased tax comes from. Though it may be split over 6 installments, the tax of it is not and all shows with the 1st installment. Hoping this is just a temporary issue with the new account system and that the intention is the tax should be split among the 6 installments.
Many CSRs are probably unaware of this as they would see the total tax and have to dig through the system to see the per line item tax. The new system and the NFL Sunday Ticket options don't seem to be playing well together. They better get it together before the next season.
