Caller ID from AT&T land line displayed on DirecTV TV screen

We have DirecTV with a Genie in downstairs family room and a Genie Mini in each of two bedrooms upstairs. We have AT&T home phone service served by a land line. For many years before we got the Genies the caller ID information from our land line displayed on our TV when we received a call. When we got the Genies a couple of years ago we lost that feature which we liked. Yesterday I happen to be watching TV upstairs in one of the bedrooms and the telephone rang. The caller ID displayed in the lower left corner of the TV. It did not appear on the downstairs TV. We want that feature on the downstairs Genie but cannot find a way to turn it on. How can we turn that feature on?

We also thought the feature was phased out years ago, but how can it show up on one Mini Genie and not on the Genie? Was there a software update that not all boxes got?

Caller ID on TV hasn't been supported in years, just left to run in the old software.

Starting with the 2nd generation Genie (HR44), which is the last box to have a phone jack, the new software removes the menu option for the feature. Apparently the old data is not yet completely cleared, so information might still pass to any Mini Genie Clients. Eventually the old data should be completely wiped.

Software updates are now fully through satellite. Internet connected allows PPV ordering by remote, On Demand, and even anonymous viewing data. So the old feature no longer has a purpose to encourage people to be connected to a landline, especially since it only worked with plain old telephone systems (POTS) and not the newer types (i.e. VOIP based) being used now. And then you have those that use cell phone as their main or only phone.

As the feature stays in older boxes, you could consider replacing a Mini with an HDDVR (i.e. HR24). Get 2 tuners and 500GB recording space, instead of stealing from Genie. With no difference in monthly cost it is more bang for your buck.
