Call DirecTV at 1 800 531 5000 and say "cancel" at the voice prompt. That will connect you with a Retention Specialist who will try to change your mind. Be polite and firm.  Be sure to ask about any necessary equipment returns or early termination fees.

I've got a good one. Have had Direct now for several yrs. I moved 50 miles away & took all my old equipment. Direct charged me $200 for re-hookup and when I complained , while on the phone call, they cancelled my service, restarted the service again, said I was under a new 2 yr contract, sent me two AT&T phones which I didn't order and sent me a bill for $275 . These people are nuts. I want to cancel but talking to them is pointless. If I don't pay them can I still be charged?

Movers order is $199. Historically it must be over 12 months of active service since your last move, with account in good standing, for the move to be free. Free or not it comes with a 12 month agreement, or 24 months if you also upgrade equipment.

Account canceled and restarted, with new 2yr agreement, and phones sent that you didn't order, is all sorts of absurdity. I could see the cancel/restart maybe, if agent meant to close the Movers order to rebuild it to verify if at cost or free and selected the wrong option by accident, but the rest of it is beyond excuse.

Call DirecTV and when you get the voice system say "cancel" to route you to their retention department. Depending on how in depth this is a supervisor may be needed (especially because of the AT&T phones that were ordered). A complaint needs to be submitted on that prior agent as that was a huge mess up.

If you simply don't pay them, then yes you will be charged. This is why you are required to keep a valid card on file, and why any card ever used on the account is now attached. If you cancel and leave an outstanding balance, they will collect. Canceling may only be done over the phone, so that a live agent can attempt to address the situation. If you simply refuse to pay your bills, then you bill up an outstanding balance (including late fees) as you start down the path of collections. Hurts you more in the long run. So call and hopefully a good retention agent (or their supervisor) can get this fixed for you. Good luck.
