Cancelled account

I have canceled my account and have been told I do not need to return the equipment as it’s over 10 years old. However I was also told I will receive a letter telling me to return the equipment, I am confused. I asked for a letter or email stating the equipment does not need to be returned and was told they can’t do that.
How can I be sure I won’t be charged?

Talking to a call center halfway round the world just enforced my decision to cancel

When an account is closed you usually get general return instructions, even if equipment is non-returnable. What are the models of each box you have? (satellite tech doesn't change quick so over 10 years old doesn't give a returnable answer)

Since you cannot use again or sell your boxes, you could always try taking a participating shipping location (FedEx or The UPS Store) for the free return. Just need your account number when you go in and make sure to keep receipt showing they took possession.

Companies outsourcing is rather normal so if that is an issue then you don't want any pay TV in the future.

I have the names and badge numbers of the rep and supervisor who said not to return the equipment. I am quite happy to take the items to UPS and have them set back. But why the confusion ?

Names and badge number doesn't change if returnable or not.

Too often agents will give general return instructions, or worse mention non-returnable by assuming, instead of checking model numbers against the current return list.

Upon canceling some people have gotten an auto email about general return instructions, but sometimes referencing specific models. I believe with the change in companies (AT&T spinning off all TV services back to their own entity with the new co-owner) and updating systems is why the auto notifications were inconsistent for a while.

With model numbers we can give guidance if returnable or not (or if close enough to play it safe by returning). But even if not required to returned, many old models have been sent back so allows them to recycle in-house. After all, why keep a box you cannot use?

Just make sure that the FedEx/The UPS Store you want to take to is a participating location for the return program.

You are welcome. If you still need assurance one way or the other just post back with the model numbers of your boxes.
