Charged for early cancellation fee

We were charged or early cancellation fee after 12 yrs of continuous service. I think our original service agreement is expired.

Well yes the ORIGIONAL service agreement would have competed about 10 years ago. An early cancellation fee (ECF) means you had a current service agreement.

Upgrades of equipment (adding additional TV counts) comes with 24 month agreement.

Movers order comes with a 12 month agreement (unless with upgrade of course).

Historically some 12 or 24 month discounts can come with an agreement for the same length.

If that doesn't clear it up, then you would need to call DirecTV to verify what the agreement was for.

How do you call Directv when they won't take your call unless you pay the fee?

Agents of any company would be required to attempt to collect payment of an outstanding bill. But if you want to discuss the account before paying, then they are supposed to do so.

Make sure you call the DirecTV number (not the AT&T one) and when you get the voice system say "cancel". That way you are routed to a retention/cancellation specialist who are usually more experienced.
