Closing account for deceased parent.
My father passed away 1/26/19. While his estate was being settled and disposed of, I made payments on his account keeping it current. Now that the estate is closed and being disposed of, I need to cancel his account and send back the equipment. No more payments are going to be made now that his bank account is closed. I had to cancel an AT&T account for my mother last year when she died, and was given an extremely difficult time by AT&T. Can someone tell me how to do this without getting the run around? Thank you very much.

i believe that you have to go to an at&t store and show the death certificate but hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in with a definitive answer

Call DirecTV and when you get the voice system say "cancel" which should route you directly.
Used to be they cancel the account per deceased and have their back office do whatever verifying they need to.
Now it sounds like they have you submit proof of death, such as death certificate, up front.
This should have been done when deceased occurred as keeping account open in the name/SSN of someone passed falls under fraud/identity theft. But usually a big deal is not made as it is often understood it takes some time to clear accounts and everything to catch up within a reasonable time.
