contract period

I am now handling my mom's affairs and discovered a notice from a bill collection agency for your company.  When I called customer service they indicated she had an early termination fee because she broke her contract.  I cannot locate a signed contract and asked for a copy from your office which they could not provide.  I cannot pay for a bill where there isn't documentation backing it up.  This cannot be legally acceptable.

Please advise

She had a contract or she wouldn’t have had service. She accepted the contract upon install on an iPad or other tablet. Everything is legally acceptable as directv has teams of high powered attys to ensure  what the terms of service states is legal.

What @Constructive said.

You can contact the collection agency and try to negotiate a lower pay off.  They bought it discounted and might be willing to settle it for less.

DirecTV intro offers come with a 24 month service agreement. So everybody has at least their starting agreement.

Any later orders that come with an agreement (upgrades of equipment, Movers order, etc.) send a confirmation reminding of the agreement. Customer signs tech's handheld (requirement before tech leaves) confirming install and agreement again. Often they can resend the order confirmation for reference, including the starting order.

Since you received a notice from a collection agency, they now own the balance. So you contact them to discuss settling the outstanding debt.
