I TOLD THEM I WAS DISABLED AND STILL HELPING MY YOUNGEST DAUGHTER IN GRAD SCHOOL AND THAT WAS ALL I COULD AFFORD AND THE SALES WOMAN ON THE PHONE DID NOT REVILE THE FACT THAT THE BILL WOULD DOUBLE NEXT YEAR !!!

Advertisements list in their fine print discounts for 12 months.

Agent should clarify how discounts work.

Order confirmation shows in detail all promotions and for how long.

Monthly bill shows discount such as $30 off for 12, 1 of 12 (2 of 12, 3 of 12, etc.)

So not deceitful because you failed to read anything.

It sounds like you had a new customer deal with special pricing that ended after 12 months.

I DON'T TRUST THEM.  WORST COMPANY EVER. I called to cancel services 3 days after new billing cycle started and was told my final bill would be prorated and only charged for the 3 days. I got a shock Saturday when I saw I was charged my full monthly bill. Sup told me that is a problem with their system when you have autopsy. So not my fault.  This whole time thinking I'm getting the credit to my debit. NOPE a card in the mail that takes 4-6 wks. What a joke. They were sure quick to pull f rim my checking and now tell me they can't refund back to my checking. I'm contacting the BBC. I should have no when I was lied to about the amt of money I was getting on a reward card. when I set up

The BBC?  British Broadcasting Corporation?

Side note:  DirecTV stopped pro-rating your final bill last year.

Better business bureau. I live in a state where I can cancel prior to end of a billing cycle. So I have no clue what you are talking about.

BBB - Better Business Bureau.    That makes way more sense.  😉

I live in a state where I can cancel prior to end of a billing cycle.

What state is that?

DTV changed their prorate policy 2 yrs ago to you pay for and receive service until the end of the billing cycle so you where misinformed.  Auto pay had already charged your CC as on day 2 of your billing cycle the bill is made and sent and auto pay pays it.  You can always cancel at anytime.

DirecTV stopped prorating final bills in January 2019, with notice to us customers in 2018. Here is that notice for reference (I kept the email received).

Please read this if you receive DIRECTV, AT&T U-verse® TV, AT&T Internet, AT&T Phone, and/or AT&T Fixed Wireless service(s). We want to remind you that you’re billed in advance for recurring service(s) and/or programming charges and applicable fees based on the terms of your current service agreement(s) with us. Starting January 14, 2019, subject to applicable laws, we’re updating your agreement(s) to include your recurring service(s)/programming charges and fees won’t be prorated if you cancel the above service(s) on any day other than the last day of your billing cycle. Your service(s) will continue until the end of your billing cycle but you won’t get a refund (prorated credits) for any remaining days left in your billing cycle. For products not listed above, refer to their terms of service for more information.

Questions about this change? Go to att.com/ProrationPolicy for more information and to see the revised section of your service agreement(s).

JUST SO EVERYONE IS CLEAR THEY DID PRORATE MY BILL. THAT IS A NON ISSUE. IT IS THE METHOD OF REFUND THAT IS RIDICULOUS.

Refunds are processed by a preaid card now. But unless your account shows an adjusted balance, then the prior agent's refund request was denied (if they even requested one at all). It is not an issue with auto pay having already gone through as you canceled long after they stopped prorating the final bill. If you had canceled before that change and auto pay had gone through before the bill was adjusted, then yes back then that would result in a refund.

If they somehow approved an exception for your account, then consider yourself lucky. But if no card arrives and bill is not adjusted, then you know why.
