Your info is available to whoever wants to buy it from the dark web. If true they canceled your account then they called DTV and pretended to be you.

DirecTV, like most companies, does not call you to offer you discounts on your service (certainly not 50% off your bills). Unfortunately crooks out there use many methods to obtain information, such as social engineering. to gain access to sensitive information.

As customers, it is our responsibility to do our due diligence and be careful with our information. Even Caller ID information can be faked (spoofed). So it is best not to accept specials or give out information with those that call you. Instead call (fully dial, not callback what shows on Caller ID) the official customer service number to discuss your account.

As you have experienced, having you pay with an untraceable method (gift card) is a common type of scam right now. If you have already provide them the info for the gift cards, then that money is gone. I would highly suggest calling DirecTV and putting a password on your account (or changing it if you have one already), plus keeping an eye on your financial accounts and credit for any suspicious activity.

All you can do is take steps to protect yourself going forward. DirecTV cannot do anything about your falling for a crook's con.

Tell your mom that is a scammer. The name for DirecTV has not changed, though where it is listed it will have the AT&T logo with it of course since they acquired DirecTV a few years ago.

DirecTV's contact info remains the same, though their phone system is now integrated with AT&T's. Still best to call the DirecTV historic number for support as minimizes any transfers.
