Direct TV Protection Plan

Direct TV is own by ATT now so  ATT Tech came out and replaced my equipments in order to continue receiving current Direct TV program . My question is I see a monthly fee of $8.99 for DIRECT TV PROTECTION PLAN on my bill (?) - Is it worth it to have this service ? I know I can cancell it any time but want to have some input before making decision. Thanks for your advice

It's really a personal choice --Think of it like any insurance policy --you could pay 8.99 for 2years ==215.76 --if you did not have insurance and needed a service call --it would cost only $99.

It is DirecTV not Direct TV. Only 1 'T' in the brand.

Equipment Protection Plan is optional. Personally not worth it for many. It is $8.99 a month, so $107.88 a year regardless if you use it or not.

Service call for repair $99

Delivery of replacement box $19.95

Remote $15.

You shouldn't need to use it often enough to be the better value. Remotes can be cheaper through online retailers. Though it boasts a upgrade every 2 years, you normally would have a free upgrade anyway after 2 years since your last one. And there aren't great new boxes pumped out each year to upgrade that often.

So I find the plan to be more worth it for those that don't do well keeping reserve funds. So a small but known monthly cost is easier to budget than a one-time surprise expense.

And before considering any upgrades (protection plan or not), post back with the model numbers of your boxes. Best to get guidance from experienced customers vs AT&T (not legacy DirecTV) or outsourced agents.

Interesting.  Their protection plan offers an equipment upgrade every two years.  When I called to access this offer I was told that our Genies installed in 2015 were their most current.  Some upgrade!

In most cases an "upgrade" is a free additional TV install or old HR24 to HR44/54Genie or HS17 Genie2.

As mentioned they do not create new lines of equipment every year. Newer model numbers are not upgrades if they are the same line, so only provided during warranty replacements.

What are the models of every box you have? This will clarify if you have anything to consider upgrading or if your setup is completely the top end.
