DirecTV billing me months after cancelling
I just noticed that I have been billed monthly for roughly 16-18 months for services that were cancelled. We cancelled our DirecTV and switched to TWC, and did not notice until Dec 10 that we had been billed roughly $167/month since the date of cancellation. When we called DirecTV, they simply said to have our bank dispute it and they will refund all charges that were charged by mistake. Problem is, my bank can only dispute charges that go back 60 days from the date I claimed the dispute. I need to be reimbursed the full amount that DirecTV took from me after we cancelled our service, close to $3,000 total.

How do you not notice a $167 charge for 16-18 months? I reconcile all of my bank transactions no less than weekly. I doubt it will do any good but you can escalate to corporate by filing an FCC or BBB complaint. That’s probably the only way you get reimbursed more than 3 months worth.

I wish I was rich enough that I didn't notice an extra $167 a month going out. 😲

@sandblaster - I know, it's pathetic. I typically reconcile monthly but things get busy and I just let it slip and it blended in with all the other charges. Thanks for the input!

Terms of Service allow 60 day billing dispute, though getting 90 days is not unheard of.
Unfortunately 16-18 months (almost 2 years) is too long to dispute. That far back makes it look like you accepted the service and charges. So you can certainly try a BBB complaint, the situation does not lean in your favor.

@Juniper even if there was no service to accept? I feel like they should do the right thing and cross reference their records to show I was getting no service and they were taking my money. Even if it was by mistake, they still have the right to reimburse me. Any other ideas besides BBB?

DTV has no way to tell if you are still using it or not sounds like it was never canceled.

Satellite transmission is one-way. As such they have no record of how much you use the service or what channels you watch.
Regardless of your original request, they will see you didn't contact them for almost 2 years. So that will say to them you decided to keep the service but are trying to scam money from them, even if that is not the actual situation.
Once you start counting in years, reality is that you ignored your finances for too long and have forfeited those funds.
